Eat Stop Eat Offers Unique Weight Loss Alternative

(June 04, 2011) -- Fasting, or refraining from eating for an extended period of time, is a concept that’s as old as time. While the act of fasting has strong ties to some religious beliefs, it is now being utilized by individuals from all walks of life as a simple approach to weight loss.

Studies have shown that occasional fasting combined with weight training exercise is not only an effective method for losing weight, but that it also has health benefits.

Nutritionist and athlete Brad Pilon has developed the “Eat Stop Eat” method of weight loss - a simple intermittent fasting program which allows individuals to enjoy all their favorite foods most days of the week while refraining from food entirely for one or two days.

The only scientifically proven way to lose body fat is to reduce calorie intake. Fasting creates a calorie deficit in an individual’s weekly diet. Fasting for short periods of time - 24 hours, for example - allows the body to burn fat, since it has no food to burn for fuel.

Scientific research also indicates that short periods of fasting increase growth hormone levels. The growth hormone provides many health benefits - decreasing fat; increasing muscle mass, bone density and energy levels; improving skin tone; and improving immune system function.
When a simple weight training routine is followed while Eat Stop Eat is being practiced, it’s even possible to gain muscle mass while losing weight.

Typical Eat Stop Eat followers lose between one and four pounds of body fat per week - all while sacrificing calories only one or two days per week, rather than cutting back every day.

With Eat Stop Eat, there is no need to count calories, measure out portions of food, refrain from eating certain foods, ingest supplements, or follow a rigorous workout routine. Those who have used the program call it a “brainless” way to lose weight.

Pilon has debunked any myths that fasting causes the body to go into starvation mode or that it’s necessary to eat regularly in order to maintain energy levels. In fact, he says, intermittent fasting can actually increase energy levels and cause individuals to feel healthier and more alert than ever.

Individuals with serious medical conditions should consult a doctor before trying the Eat Stop Eat program. Anyone else should be able to adhere to the program easily and experience several health benefits from it.

HIV Cure Needs More Commitment and Money

Though there are many scientists working towards finding a cure for HIV, nobody was successful. The “International Workshop on HIV reservoirs and Eradication Strategies” has been formed in 2003 only to find a solution to the issue of HIV persistence.

Tucker, GA, June 04, 2011 -- For 3 decades now HIV has created jitters everywhere. The number of HIV cases is on a rise across the world and inspite of the technological advancements we made in the field, we couldn't get a cure for it. Another saddening thing is that the medical treatment for HIV victims is very costly and the price figures are astronomical. Since most people cannot afford the treatment, they usually succumb to death after fighting for many years. To help all such people, there is a need for a group that strives towards HIV cure. This call is for all those scientists who are passionate about working on the virus and its cure.

Though there are many scientists working towards finding a cure for HIV, nobody was successful. Antiviral therapy is required for people to fight against this deadly disease and a HIV prophylactic vaccine too is necessary. The “International Workshop on HIV reservoirs and Eradication Strategies” has been formed in 2003 only to find a solution to the issue of HIV persistence. Because not only current treatments for HIV are very costly, but they are unable to get rid of HIV and must be administered life long. This implies problems of compliance, resistance and toxicity. The aim of this workshop is to develop novel strategies tackling HIV reservoirs and control them without the need of continued antiretroviral therapy.

Chief of Department of Infectious Diseases, General Hospital, France, Dr Alain Lafeuillade is the chairperson of this workshop and he is very passionate about what he is doing. ‘A group of medical experts from various medical streams need to come together under one roof and form a powerful task force that works towards finding a cure for HIV. We are conducting workshops in many countries to bring an awareness on this’ is what Dr Lafeuillade says.

Experts from the fields of virology, immunology, drug development and clinical research are required to form this special task force.

Interested people can get in touch with Dr Alain Lafeuillade, Department of Infectious Diseases, General Hospital, 1208 Avenue Colonel Picot, 83056 Toulon, France. For queries about the workshop, mail him at lafeuillade@orange.fr
