Zevrix Updates LinkOptimizer for InDesign: Improves Image Handling

Zevrix Solutions announces LinkOptimizer 4.6.3, an update to its popular workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign. Awarded 4 out of 5 starts by Computer Arts magazine, LinkOptimizer allows to reduce InDesign job size and speed up processing by eliminating excess image data, performing essential image adjustments such as color conversion and sharpening, and converting file formats automatically. The new version improves handling of non-proportionally scaled images in InDesign documents.

Toronto (ON), Canada - October 19, 2011 -- Zevrix Solutions today announces the release of LinkOptimizer 4.6.3, a maintenance update to its popular workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign. LinkOptimizer automates complex image manipulation tasks allowing to significantly reduce the size of InDesign job, save processing time and reduce production costs.

Following its policy of implementing user requests at the earliest opportunity possible, Zevrix released the new update to improve the handling of non-proportionally scaled images in InDesign documents. LinkOptimizer now analyzes such images according to their higher scale value to avoid producing images with potentially insufficient resolution during processing.

"LinkOptimizer makes me extremely happy!", says Nynke Tiekstra, the owner of design studio ColtsfootMedia in Friesland, Netherlands, "It converted 10000 images in a 1800 pages project saving us at least 40 hours work, and it proved to be 100% accurate."

LinkOptimizer works automatically with Adobe Photoshop to eliminate the excess image data of InDesign links, perform essential image adjustments such as color conversion and sharpening, and convert image formats. To optimize the job size, LinkOptimizer automatically reduces the image resolution, scales and crops the images in Photoshop according to their dimensions in the InDesign document and the target resolution specified, and reimports them to InDesign at 100%.

In addition, the software can merge layers and delete hidden ones, run Photoshop actions during processing, ignore specific InDesign layers, and process copies of InDesign documents and links instead of original files. The resulting savings of disk space, time and resources can be dramatic:

-Save endless hours - and even days - of optimizing images manually.
-Reduce job turnaround drastically and cut costs through faster processing.

Pricing and Availability:
LinkOptimizer can be purchased from Zevrix website for US$259.95 as well as from authorized resellers (Light version - $179.95). Trial is also available for download. The update is free for LinkOptimizer 4.x users and $98.78 to upgrade from previous versions. LinkOptimizer is available for Mac OS X 10.4.2-10.7, a Universal Binary, and works with Adobe InDesign CS2-CS5.5.

AAA Welcomes Rise in US Alternative Fund Options

A survey that has discovered a rise in the number of alternative funds on offer has been welcomed by Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA), an alternative investment advocacy and research organization.

Boston, MA, USA, October 19, 2011 -- A survey that has discovered a rise in the number of alternative funds on offer has been welcomed by Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA), an alternative investment advocacy and research organization.

The report from Morningstar, which carried out research on mutual funds, has found that there has been an increased appetite for non-traditional investment opportunities. A Morningstar strategist, Nadia Papagiannis, explained, “What investors found out in 2008 was that in times of crisis, credit risk and equity risk are highly correlated.”

The survey found that there are now around 655 alternative style funds in the US, with more than half being exchange traded funds (ETFs).

Several different types of funds are proving more popular with risk averse investors, including long-short funds, in which investors buy stocks, as they would when investing more traditionally.

Those interested in dabbling in commodities and currencies can do so through putting their money in an arbitrage fund, explained Morningstar.

The increase in the number of investment options is simply a response to demand from investors, according to AAA’s analysis partner Anthony Johnson. He said, “People are keen to avoid the risks involved with investing in equities in light of recent scares on the stock markets.”

It’s important for investors to look at all the possibilities when searching for the right kind of alternative investment, particularly now there are so many options, said AAA. Real estate, commodities, currencies, art, antiques and forestry are all options for the forward thinking alternative investor.

Forestry investment firms like Greenwood Management offer individuals the chance to invest as little as £10,000 in timberland in emerging economies like Brazil, where the demand for timber is enormous. Investors receive returns as timber is sold and the whole operation is managed sustainably and therefore offers an ethical investment option.
