For College Students, Avoiding the “Freshman 15” Is a Lesson Worth Learning

Everyone’s heard of the “Freshman 15,” and even when students are trying to eat well, it can be a challenge when time-intensive studies-and a thriving social life-translate into less-than-ideal food choices.

New York, NY - September 29, 2011 -- If you polled students at any college or university, chances are one of their top complaints would be connected to diet. Everyone’s heard of the “Freshman 15,” and even when students are trying to eat well, it can be a challenge when time-intensive studies-and a thriving social life-translate into less-than-ideal food choices.

Add to the mix the easy availability of fast food restaurants in the vicinity of most campuses (and sometimes on campus itself!), and the result can frequently be weight gain among the student population,” say boomer generation health experts Dian Griesel, Ph.D., and Tom Griesel, authors of the new book TurboCharged: Accelerate Your Fat Burning Metabolism, Get Lean Fast and Leave Diet and Exercise Rules in the Dust (April 2011, BSH).

Dian and Tom offer the following tips for health-conscious college students:

Eat fruits and veggies at every opportunity.

Skip the “nutrition” bars-they are fat/sugar combos that do not exist in Nature, and will pack on pounds fast. They won't fill you up, but you'll be consuming 200+ calories per bar.

Drink water-especially first thing in the morning. You are dehydrated!

Walk as often as you can-and load up your backpack! The extra weight will build leg and butt muscles that are the greatest calorie burners.

For every beer, drink of wine, shot, or whatever your alcoholic beverage of choice-drink an eight-ounce glass of water! This will help keep you hydrated and satiated, and slow the effects of alcohol on your metabolism.

Eat a large salad at least once daily, and skip the creamy dressings that make that salad go from skinny to fat.

Don't worry if you are not “working out.” Walking, cleaning your room, dancing, playing any sport-all count as activities and burn calories. You don't need to be in a gym.

Dentists can Grow their Practices by Attending the IAPAM's Hands-On Botox ® Training

A new report shows that the market for botox ® is growing at a rate of 9% annually, and dentists are poised to capture a significant portion of this market by attending accredited hands-on, physician-taught botox ® training like that offered by the IAPAM at its respected Aesthetic Medicine Symposium.

Las Vegas, NV, September 29, 2011 -- The market for botox ® treatments is growing. In a report published by GlobalData, "the global market for facial aesthetics is forecast to reach about $4 billion in 2017 at a compound annual growth rate of 9%. The growth is expected to be driven by minimally invasive procedures that offer long term results at competitive pricing." The key to dentists capturing a portion of this growing market is by engaging in comprehensive, hands-on, physician-lead Botox ® Training like that offered at the IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposium with Botox ® Training (http://www.aestheticmedicinesymposium.com/botoxtraining.html).

Catherine Maley, frequent contributor to the IAPAM and author of Your Aesthetic Practice (http://www.YourAestheticPractice.com), agrees. She comments that a dentist sees "on average 8 dental patients per day. Pareto's Law of 80/20 Rue says that 20% will convert to aesthetics if asked. That's 1.6 patients per day multiplied by the average cost of a Botox ® treatment at $2350 and that equals $560 per day. Now multiply that by 22 working days per month, and multiply that again over 12 months," and an expertly trained dentist could see his/her dental practice grow by over $100,000 in revenue in a year.

Dentists can capture this growth in 2011 and beyond, by attending "all-inclusive" training programs, offered in medical facilities not hotel rooms, and lead by board-certified dermatologists and aesthetic medicine business experts, such as the IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposiums, the IAPAM's Aesthetic Practice Start-Up Seminars, and the IAPAM's Advanced Botox ® and Dermal Filler Programs.

For more information on the remaining 2011 dates for the IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposiums and its medical or dental Practice Start-Up Workshops, please visit http://www.iapam.com or contact the IAPAM, at 1-800-219-5108 ext. 704, info@theiapam.com.

The goal of the association is to offer education, ethical standards, credentialing, and member benefits. IAPAM membership is open to all licensed medical doctors (MDs), dentists (DDSs/DMDs) doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs), physicians assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs). IAPAM Comments on the Importance of Pharmaceutical hCG

The IAPAM reports on the dangers of improperly sourced hCG for medical weight loss programs, and educates physicians on how to safely source hCG, and how to effectively and profitably deliver an hCG Diet and Weight Loss Program to their patients. One critical success factor is to attend expert training through programs like the IAPAM’s hCG Training Program.

Las Vegas, NV, September 28, 2011 -- Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) for weight loss is everywhere on the internet. One cannot google "hCG" or "hCG diet" without seeing these sensational headlines: "Lose 1-2 LBS/DAY Buy hCG," "Lose 23 lbs in 23 Days For Only $70," or "Buy hCG Here - Save Up To 72%." However, as Jeff Russell, Executive Director of the IAPAM comments, "it is quite amazing that so many people want to put their long-term health at risk by answering an internet or Facebook ad, or watching a YouTube video on hCG. It is equally disconcerting that so many physicians launch hCG Medical Weight Management Programs, without being properly trained in administering an hCG Protocol, sourcing hCG, understanding patient selection criteria and patient testing, and the common medical contraindications for hCG."

To meet the need for this type of in-depth, physician-led hCG training, the IAPAM has developed an exclusive program for physicians looking to add hCG and Medically Supervised Weight Loss programs to their existing practices. The IAPAM's hCG Training (http://www.hcgtraining.com) is offered the Friday before each of the IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposiums in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona. The IAPAM's next hCG training sessions will be held on October 21, 2011 and December 2, 2011 in Scottsdale.

Mr. Russell also comments on the controversy surrounding homeopathic hCG. "There are a myriad of 'hCG' distributors in cyberspace, who do not warn consumers about the potential health risks associated with taking hCG and engaging in an associated Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD). The bottom line is that hCG is an FDA controlled substance and requires the prescription of a physician. You have no idea what is actually in the hCG you buy on the internet, and you could be risking your health by doing so," cautions Mr. Russell. The IAPAM's faculty has developed a program where all the critical issues associated with hCG and the IAPAM's Exclusive hCG Protocol are discussed. The IAPAM is the only physician-led training association to offer education on how to safely and successfully add hCG and Medical Weight Management to a medical practice.

For more information on hCG for Weight Loss, see the IAPAM's Medical Weight Management Resources webpages, including:

Fly Over Michigan's Fall Color in a Hot Air Balloon

Fall color season is fast approaching and there's no better way to see the colors than from a hot air balloon. Michigan balloonists offer a stunning platform from which to enjoy this once a year feast for the eyes.

Plymouth, MI - September 28, 2011 -- “Michigan's fall colors are off the chart beautiful from a hot air balloon" says Scott Lorenz, President and Chief Pilot of Westwind Balloon Company of Plymouth, Michigan. (http://www.PureMichiganBalloon.com)

The palate of colors just takes your breath away," says Lorenz "I love taking photos from the balloon especially when we fly over Kensington Park, it’s fabulous, it’s ten times better than driving. People just have no idea how pretty it is until they get above it."

Want to get a preview of a flight?” asks Lorenz, “check out a video I put together of some of our fall color flights. The views are spectacular as we glide over the tops of the canopy of trees. There’s no better way to enjoy Michigan’s fall colors than from a hot air balloon.” Check it out at: http://youtu.be/1R-QsurhW6M

Most hot air balloon rides in Michigan last about one hour and Lorenz flies over the woods and streams of Kensington Park and Island Lake State Park in Milford and Brighton. He and several other pilot friends meet at Park 'n Ride area off Milford Road and I-96 (exit # 155) about 2 1/2 hours before sunset. From there he'll launch helium balloons, determine the wind direction, then take a short drive to one of nine launch sites in the area that give the best views and best landing sites downwind.

What to wear? Lorenz suggests passengers wear tennis shoes and jeans. He says the air temp “upstairs” is within a couple degrees of ground temp so it’s not a factor. Cameras and video cameras are highly recommended to preserve the once in a lifetime moments while flying over the countryside.

Since fall color balloon flights are popular Lorenz suggests people call now to reserve a spot. Flights cost $695 for a private ride which is two passengers and the pilot. All flights are pre-paid. Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, Discover and PayPal are accepted. Gift certificates are available.

To really appreciate all of the fall color that Michigan has to offer, call a balloonist and schedule a flight today, the view is really better from above!

ESCATEC invests in new diebonder to triple throughput

ESCATEC, the EMS innovator, has invested in a Hilbond DB 750 diebonder to increase the company’s diebonding capabilities.

Heerbrugg, Switzerland - September 27, 2011 -- ESCATEC, the EMS innovator, has invested in a Hilbond DB 750 diebonder to increase the company’s diebonding capabilities. The new machine is very accurate and fast, enabling ESCATEC to triple its existing diebonding throughput. The high degree of accuracy also means that the following production steps (e.g. wirebonding) have been accelerated.

The Hilbond joins the existing Amadyne SAM 42 diebonder that is older and very flexible but slower. The latter is used for bigger dies and assemblies. The new, faster Hilbond is used for products with a medium to high placement rate and high automation level or for fast prototyping.

Robert Gade, the Industrial Engineer at ESCATEC who is in charge of the diebonding machines, added, “Having these two different diebonding machines not only increases throughput and accuracy but it also enables us to use the best machine for the job be it rapid prototyping or big dies. Rapid prototyping is particularly useful here at the Heerbrugg facility as this is where our Global R&D operation is based and it enables us to ensure that we get customers’ new products quickly into production.”

In keeping with ESCATEC’s philosophy of investing in the latest state of the art software and machinery, they have just added a brand new feature to the Hilbond. Wafer mapping that enables dies to be sorted by class or by light intensity into trays. This is called “bin-batch”. It can also place dies according to the quality or classes, as the product is requesting it. The quality class can be changed in an active running program, so that a change to the available material is quickly done, just in time. A wafer map can be created from a programmed wafer and custom classes can be created if needed. Partly unpicked dies on the wafer map can be exported and stored and a converter helps to process different file types.

The diebonding machines are located in ESCATEC’s MOEMS (Micro Optic Electronic Manufacturing Services) facility in Heerbrugg which is designed to meet the growing demand for miniaturised electronics. Miniaturised electronics and sub-assemblies can be manufactured at very high levels of cleanliness and technological precision under Class 5 and Class 7 cleanroom conditions. It is supported by the rest of the Group’s global operations that include the ability to ramp up to high volume manufacturing in Asia.

Advances in HIV/AIDS Cure

The prospects for a cure now look brighter because of technological and medical advances.

Toulon, France, September 26, 2011 -- To this day, the "Berlin Patient" is believed to be the only person to ever be cured of HIV, and that cure was basically stumbled upon-a cure by serendipity, if you will. What was originally a transplant to treat HIV-related leukemia turned into a complete cure for HIV. It took many in the HIV research community by surprise and gave them hope that a more practical cure could eventually be found. That leads us to the following question: What type of cure would be more practical? A sterilizing cure-that is the complete eradication of HIV from the body-would be ideal, but may not be a realistic goal. Therefore, a functional cure-reducing the HIV viral load in the body to a level that keeps it in check permanently-seems to be more practical at this point.

The prospects for a cure now look brighter because of technological and medical advances. The proposed "cures" of the past failed in one way or another, primarily because there was a fatal flaw somewhere that failed to prevent the virus from replicating. Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) is one such method used. Using a combination of different antiretroviral medications, these medications interacted with each other to stop the virus at various points of its life cycle. While it reduced the HIV in the body to undetectable levels, the flaw emerged when people stopped taking the drugs.

Once they stopped treatment, the virus began replicating again in earnest; it was able to do this because of HIV reservoirs, or pockets of cells within the body where HIV lies dormant during HAART. HIV can remain dormant in these reservoirs for decades-especially since the reservoirs have a half-life of over 70 years. Cracking these reservoirs and somehow eradicating the virus within is the key to finding a functional cure for HIV.

The Berlin Patient taught the HIV research community that looking into people with the CCR5 mutation in their T-cells. These people are the small percentage of humans in the world who are naturally resistant to HIV. Bone marrow from a person with the CCR5 mutation was used in the Berlin Patient transplant, which is why research into the mutation has so much upside. Replicating this mutation on a wider scale could be the key to finding a cure. Furthermore, developing an entirely different strategy to deal with cell-to-cell transmission of HIV within the body is also on the agenda. The current antiretroviral medications are very effective at stopping HIV transmission through the bloodstream from cell to cell, but direct cell-to-cell transmission is something entirely different.

AAA reports on forestry bond support

Environmentalists are calling for the creation of more forestry bonds in order to help raise the cash needed to reduce deforestation by half by 2020, according to reports from Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA).

Boston, MA, USA, September 23, 2011 -- Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA) is supporting calls for the creation of more forestry bonds in order to help raise the cash needed to reduce deforestation by half by 2020.

According to organizations such as WWF, the Global Canopy Programme and the Climate Bonds Initiative, the creation of a greater number of forestry bonds, which would drive investment into the forestry sector, will help reduce climate change. They claim that $30 billion of investment each year will help to halve deforestation and safeguard the carbon absorption capabilities of the world's forested land.

Climate Bonds Initiative chairman, Sean Kidney, told BusinessGreen that providing the bonds offered have the potential to generate healthy returns, investors will flock to them: "If you offer investors an AA-rated forest bond or an AA-rated oil bond, most of them will take the green option. You have to remember that 19 of the 20 largest pension funds are public sector funds and they're concerned about climate," he said.

AAA is an analysis and advocacy group that backs alternative investments of all kinds, with a focus on ethical and environmentally sound options. It claims there are already several successful investment opportunities that drive cash towards forestry and increase the amount of forested land in their areas of operation.

Greenwood Management, for example, invites investors to buy up areas of land in Brazil that are planted with non-native trees for eventual use as charcoal in the local steel industry and for export. AAA claims that these kinds of projects help the Brazilian government to impose legislation that outlaws the logging of native trees.

The campaigners are calling for focus to be put on the creation of forestry bonds during the meeting of climate negotiators scheduled for the Durban climate talks in November. AAA’s analysis partner Anthony Johnson spoke out in support of the campaigners, saying, “Forestry bonds make perfect sense, particularly in the current economic climate where investors are desperately searching for alternative asset classes to diversity their investment portfolios.”

IAPAM Links Medical Spa Growth to Demand for Physician Botox ® Training

The IAPAM has identified a correlation between the increase in physicians engaging in the IAPAM’s comprehensive, hands-on Botox ® Training, and the significant growth in botox ® and dermal filler procedures.

Las Vegas, NV, September 23, 2011 -- The market research group, Global Industry Analysts, projects that the 70 million baby boomers, "seeking to keep the dreaded signs of aging at bay," will significantly impact the US market for aesthetic anti-aging treatments, including Botox ® and dermal fillers. The market for these age defying products or treatments is currently estimated at $80 billion, and Global Industry Analysts predicts it will balloon to more than $114 billion by the year 2015. To capture this exploding market, physicians who are expertly trained in minimally invasive, anti-aging modalities and medical weight loss treatments, are best positioned to grow their healthcare businesses.

The IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposium (http://www.AestheticMedicineSymposium.com/botoxtraining.html) is a weekend of comprehensive Botox ® training as well as dermal filler training, laser training, medical grade chemical peel training, medical microdermabrasion training, and hCG training (http://www.hcgtraining.com), and is the only multi-day, hands-on symposium, to offer education for physicians on how to profitably add the top 5 anti-aging modalities to a practice.

Jeff Russell, Executive Director of the IAPAM, concurs with the findings of Global Industry Analysts' research. "We are hearing from our members that minimally invasive procedures like cosmetic injectables, medically supervised hCG for weight loss, as well as microdermabrasion and chemical peels are in tremendous demand by patients, and we are seeing a correlating increase in the demand for our training. Registration for our cornerstone training program, the IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposium (http://www.aestheticmedicinesymposium.com), has dramatically increased in the last 9 months. We have sold out every session in 2011. Physicians are realizing they not only need to offer botox ® treatments to their patients, but also laser hair removal, IPL skin rejuvenation, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion. Organizations, like the IAPAM, educate physicians on how to package these treatments for the most appealing and profitable outcomes."

The IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposium provides a forum for physicians to immerse themselves in training in the top 5 minimally invasive procedures. Leading the faculty is a team of renowned cosmetic dermatologists, who cover aesthetic patient consultations, facial anatomy & musculature, product preparation, pain management, procedural protocols, post treatment issues and continuing practice support. Unlike other programs, the IAPAM's Botox ® training is done in a clean, multi-million dollar medical facility, not a hotel room chair.

For more information on the next Aesthetic Medicine Symposium and/or the hCG/Physician Weight Loss Training, or to register (http://www.aestheticmedicinesymposium.com/registration) for a session, please see http://www.iapam.com or contact the IAPAM at 1-800-219-5108 ext. 704.
