Think Most Immigrants Eventually Adapt to America? New Memoir Tells of Two Whose Experience Was Bumpy, Funny, and Painfully Poignant

In a world filled with memoirs, "Eat Now; Talk Later" is truly different. Unlike most memoirs, which focus on the tragic and the dysfunctional, "Eat Now" shows the how the telling of family stories builds loyalty, mutual understanding, and kinship.

New York, NY, USA (March 31, 2014) -- Ten years ago, author James Vescovi began collecting stories about his unusual grandparents. While they lived in the modern world, their minds remained stuck in a medieval Italian farming culture. The newly published "Eat Now; Talk Later" features 52 hilarious and poignant stories about immigrants in New York who were stumped by telephones, banks, fast food, TV wrestling, and supermarkets.

When Tony and Desolina Vescovi arrived in America in 1929, they collided with the 20th century. They'd been born around 1900 in farming communities where little had changed for hundreds of years. It was up to their only child, a son, to serve as their shepherd, and it wasn't easy For example, how to explain that his job was taking him and his family 700 miles away when, in their day, sons stayed put to work the family farm? Or that it wasn't wise to hide $10,000 in the bedroom? Or you needed bring cash to the hospital to pay your bill?

Not only is the subject of the book original, but so is the way it is written. Tony and Desolina's life is recounted through stories recalling incidents and ideas that reveal their character. Several of the stories have already appeared in print in publications such as The New York Times, Creative Nonfiction, Newsday, and Ancestry Magazine.

"I could never have written a traditional, birth-to-death memoir of my grandparents," says Vescovi. "They were not famous and did nothing that we might deem extraordinary, like invent a successful product or argue before the U.S. Supreme Court. Instead, like most of us, they lived quiet, anonymous lives. Yet, how do we tell others about remarkable family members-through story."

Vescovi's collection-the full title is "Eat Now; Talk Later: 52 True Tales of Family, Feasting, and the American Dream" - began with his father. He traveled around the world as a pharmaceutical executive and he returned home with amazing stories. He was a born storyteller. He also told tales about his childhood with Tony and Desolina in New York, which the author collected. The book also contains a scrapbook of family photos and recipes.

According to Vescovi, the book's title comes from his grandmother, who disliked conversation during meals. "To her, eating was sacred. Conversing while eating tortellini was like talking loudly during mass. You just didn't do it." Vescovi is quick to point out that while the tales have an Italian flavor, they have a universal quality about them. "We all have relatives like my grandparents. Part of my goal in writing 'Eat Now; Talk Later' is to encourage people ferret out and collect their own precious family stories."

"Eat Now; Talk Later" is also a book for modern, busy people. Stories can be read before bed, on a lunch hour, or waiting in line. "They can even be shared with friends who complain they have enough to read," says the author.

To read an excerpt, hear an author interview, buy the book, and see one-of-a-kind photos, visit the author's web site at eatnowtalklater.com.

The Recruitment Company 'cvmoon' Launched Their New Website And Their Logo, Which They Claim Can Be Seen On The Moon

CVMoon.com officially launched their new recruitment service during March 2014 with a little help from the Moon. Their stated "No nonsense, no frills" recruitment service is initially aimed at the UK job market, but with plans to expand into both the US and rest of Europe in the very near future.

Picture comparing a photograph of the full Moon
with cvmoon's registered trademark logo.
United Kingdom (March 26, 2014) -- The company's name, website and logo, take their inspiration from the Moon, by using existing visible features on the moon's surface which resemble the letters "C" and "V" (from Curriculum Vitae) exploiting the "Pareidolia" effect.

According to Wikipedia, "Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant". A common example of Pareidolia is seeing shapes of animals or other recognizable objects in clouds. The registered trademark logo of cvmoon makes full use of this effect by accentuating the letters "C" and "V" against a recognizable photograph of the full Moon. cvmoon claim that once you have a taken a fresh look at the moon and can make out their logo, you will never be able to see the moon quite the same again!

Several companies have previously expressed an interest in placing their logos on the Moon, some more seriously such as Pizza Hut and others more jovially like Pepsi. There has even been company offering to carve your company's logo on the moon! CVMoon.com believe that they have stolen a march on all of these companies by identifying and using the existing features clearly visible on the moon in their logo which is no t only protected by copyright but also as a registered trademark.

This new recruitment service differentiates itself from the many similar others in this already crowded market place, by the strict adherence to two key fundamental principles -
- "Job Seekers CVs/Resumes should always be freely accessible to every genuine recruiter"
- "No one should have to pay to advertise a genuine job vacancy on the Internet"

Further, cvmoon states that they have adopted a design and implementation philosophy of "KISS" (Keep It Simple, Stupid) and make reference to the following to demonstrate this:
- Absence of unnecessary links, pictures, and other extraneous information.
- Only core functionality is being offered to ensure that navigation through the site is as simple as possible e.g. Jobseekers can upload their CV/Resume and job requirements and/or search the database for current job vacancies and nothing else. Similarly, potential recruiters can search the CV/Resume database for suitable candidates and/or post their job vacancies for jobseekers to view.

UK Budget March 2014 and QROPS for Final Salary Pensions

If you are in a Final Salary scheme you need to act now! Or you may be sorry, as time is running out!

ZURICH, Switzerland (March 26, 2014) -- Given this budget is in the run up to the next election in 2015. As normal it is a sweetener, and lots of smoke and mirrors.

After the smoke has cleared however, if you are in a Final Salary, also known as a Defined Benefit pension scheme. Take note the option to transfer to a QROPS is to be removed.

Combine this with the Government’s announcement that it intends to abolish tax allowances for non UK residents. So pension benefits you take in the UK would be taxed up to the full rate of 50%, on the whole amount. The future looks bleak if you are in a Final Salary scheme but no longer live in the UK.

The pension reforms that were announced are likely to encourage a lot more people to look at QROPS as a very attractive alternative to leaving their pensions in the UK.

Moving your UK pension arrangements to a QROPS if suitable given your own particular circumstances, can only improve your position.

Most importantly, once moved to a QROPS you have control over your money. If left in your UK pension arrangement it is highly likely that additional constraints will be put in place which will adversely affect you.

If you have a UK pension and have left the UK, or are considering a QROPS transfer, contact Waterstone Investment Associates.

Frances Marino is in Gallery's Artist Showcase

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is proud to announce that Frances Marino is the Gallery's new featured artist.

Jupiter, FL, USA (March 15, 2014) -- Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is proud to announce that Frances Marino is the Gallery's new featured artist. Frances was originally born in Buffalo New York and in 1974 she moved to Boulder Colorado in order to live in the wide open spaces. 30 years later, in 2005, her life would take a turn into the art world.

In 2005, Frances began to think what she would like to do when she would retire in 10 years' time. She realized that art was always something that she had enjoyed dabbling in, by going to art shows and art openings. With that realization, she decided to take a couple of drawing classes at the local Front Range Community College by starting out with a watercolor class. From that experience, Frances decided to take a pastel class at the Colorado Art Academy and with that, pastels quickly became her favorite medium.

In 2008 Frances decided that she wanted to expand into abstracts and she took a class with the artist Gwen Fox, thus, it was her first experience with acrylics which she tends to use more of these days.

Frances tells this story about her art, "Someone told me once that I will never be famous because my art is all over the place without a certain style and people will not be able to recognize my art. Being famous is not my goal. My goal is to create pieces of art that people would love to hang on their walls. So I continue to paint what moves me and I never know how the painting will turn out until I am finished with it. But then again, I can't say if one of my paintings is ever finished or whether it is just abandoned for the moment."

She continues her thoughts, "The world of art has been a great place to land for my next career with even I not knowing where my next painting will come from or how it will show up on the canvas. I find it's all a mystery to me." Frances's website is http://www.frances-marino.artistwebsites.com.

Illegal Alien Suing Emergency Crews That Saved His Life Should Be Deported

ALIPAC is calling for the federal government to do its job to protect American citizens from harm and exploitation by enforcing the existing laws and deporting Roy Ortiz who recently appeared on Fox News regarding his lawsuit against first responders who had saved his life from flood waters.

Raleigh, NC, USA (March 13, 2014) -- Contact: Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) Press@alipac.us / (866) 703-0864

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC is calling for the federal government to do its job to protect American citizens from harm and exploitation by enforcing the existing laws and deporting Roy Ortiz who recently appeared on Fox News regarding his lawsuit against first responders who had saved his life from flood waters.

Gretchen Carlson of Fox News outed Roy Ortiz as an illegal immigrant live on air after Ortiz's attorney confessed he was in the country illegally during a break. The video is being distributed by ALIPAC at this link....

illegal immigrant sues rescuers that saved his life from flood

"Roy Ortiz shows how alien and exploitative many illegal immigrants in America are," said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC. "Many are here to take as much as they can any way they can using a criminal culture that is rife with fraud and deception while at the same time lacking many of the values Americans hold dear. The fact an illegal alien is suing the men and women who risked their lives to save him from flood waters shows an example of much broader trends and attitudes among illegal immigrants."

William Gheen and ALIPAC manage the world's largest archive of information in existence on the topic of illegal immigration and illegal immigrants which is found at http://www.ALIPAC.us since 2004.

Numerous news stories and comments are documented on the site each week proving the deadly and costly consequences of the non enforcement of America's existing border and immigration laws by the Executive Branch under Bush and now Obama.

Illegal immigrants are killing American citizens, stealing taxpayer resources, stealing strategic metals from private and public entities, taking over empty homes from home owners, engaging in identity theft and document fraud that harms American citizens, and now filing frivolous and derogatory lawsuits just like Roy Ortiz.

"We need to keep telling more American citizens the story of Roy Ortiz so they will understand that this is the kind of illegal immigrant Obama and many Republicans want in the country for cheap labor and cheap votes!" said William Gheen. "Roy Ortiz and millions of illegal aliens like him are here in America to take everything they can get their hands on through legal, illegal, fraudulent, and unscrupulous means!"

Unlike the illegal alien Roy Ortiz, William Gheen is no longer allowed on Fox News because he opposes immigration reform amnesty for illegal immigrants which is supported by Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch.

For more information about illegal immigration, illegal immigrants, crimes, terrorism, and the corporate sponsored invasion of America or to schedule interviews with William Gheen please visit http://www.ALIPAC.us.

How Much Could Maintaining Home Appliances and Systems Cost in 2014?

TotalProtect Home Warranty shares average cost of annual repairs and replacements; warns most homeowners aren't prepared.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (March 11, 2014) -- If a major home appliance or system unexpectedly breaks in 2014, do most homeowners know how much it would cost to repair or replace, and do they have the funds set aside? According to experts at TotalProtect, a home warranty company that aims to make home ownership easier, the answer is a resounding no and it could spell trouble for many in the coming year.

"Our research shows more than 60 percent of homeowners feel that an expense of more than $2,000 would be devastating to their household finances, yet the annual cost of repairs is often much more," said Steve Burnett, general manager and senior vice president of TotalProtect. "In addition to the financials, there is a great deal of stress that comes with finding the right service provider and trusting them to perform the job effectively and honestly."

According to data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and a Bloomberg report, the average age of consumer durable goods is the highest since 1962. This means homeowners are keeping their appliances longer than ever before - an average of 5.3 years - increasing the chance they could break from routine wear and tear.

"The best way to ensure financial stability is proper planning, said Emilio Escandon, CPA, principal-in-charge of the Northeast Region Tax Practice of national accounting firm MBAF. "Setting aside a designated amount each month so you are covered in the event of a major crisis is preferable as opposed to hoping for the best and then having to incur an unplanned expense. It's a healthy budgeting habit and provides peace of mind simultaneously."

"A home warranty is a great option for those who want to budget throughout the year and avoid a large, unplanned expense," added Burnett. "The truth is, things break. Homeowners should ask themselves, 'can I withstand these costs?' If the answer is no, now's the time to put a new plan in place."

USDA Certifies New Cold Chain Technology at South Florida Logistics Center

First-of-its-kind, eco-friendly process extends the shelf-life of perishables arriving through South Florida.

Coral Gables, FL (March 10, 2014) -- Flagler Global Logistics, formerly South Florida Logistics Services, today announced its South Florida Logistics Center has received United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approval for a revolutionary treatment process for fruits, vegetables and other perishable items. The new technology allows for better management of the "cold chain" to extend produce shelf life and quality, while the Miami-based entry point of the South Florida Logistics Center decreases the amount of time the products are in transport.

Industry reports cite nearly $35 billion of perishable foods are wasted annually, with nearly half of those losses due to temperature changes experienced in-transit between the grower and the grocer. Flagler Global Logistics' new USDA-approved treatment process stabilizes the cold chain integrity by exposing fruits and vegetables to a more uniform temperature, vastly improving the quality of the products. Additionally, the new treatment's filtration system makes the process more environmentally friendly.

"This new technology is a game changer for exporters looking to bring their produce to supermarket shelves in the United States," said Chris Scott, President and CEO of Flagler Global Logistics. "With this cold chain infrastructure in place at the South Florida Logistics Center, our partners have a new gateway to the Southeast that allows them to get their product to market more quickly-adding at least a week or more to the product's shelf life. It's a true competitive advantage, aiding our economy's growth while saving exporters and grocers time and money."

The South Florida Logistics Center officially opened for business in October 2013. Located adjacent to the Miami International Airport, the 200-acre intermodal logistics complex offers world-class cargo handling including unprecedented multimodal transportation access, Foreign Trade Zone advantages and refrigerated cargo options.

The Logistic Center's first building, a 170,000-square-foot facility, is now fully operational including 60,000 square feet of refrigerated space.

With more than two million square feet of Class-A warehouse and distribution space at full build out, the South Florida Logistics Center offers flexible space options with existing space from 12,000 to 275,000 square feet and build-to-suit space. Conveniently located adjacent to the Miami International Airport with exclusive rail connectivity to PortMiami, Port Everglades and Florida East Coast Railway's intermodal yard, South Florida Logistics Center significantly reduces transit times and transportation costs for importers and exporters looking to reach end-users throughout Florida, the U.S.A., Latin America and the Caribbean. The Center also offers convenient access to all major highways, including I-95, I-75, Florida Turnpike, US 41 and US 27.
