World AIDS 2012 Conferences Focus On Hope


Hope is definitely the key word at the 2012 ISHEID Conference, and the discussions on finding a cure, developing an HIV vaccine, and becoming more effective when it comes to preventing the disease from spreading will hopefully open some eyes and foster more discussion amongst the HIV research community and health professionals across the globe.

Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, May 21, 2011 -- The International Symposium on HIV and Emerging Infectious Diseases (ISHEID) is holding its latest conference in Marseilles, France, from May 23-25, 2012. A variety of topics will be discussed, and virtually all of them will be devoted to the different aspects of HIV research and the trends happening therein. There is a newfound hope emerging amongst health professionals and researchers specializing in ways to attack HIV. There are two main areas to be discussed at the upcoming conference: The research that is being devoted to finding a vaccine or a cure for HIV, and the prevention of spreading the disease even further.

The first day (May 23) is all about HIV prevention. The conference kicks off in the morning with a discussion of how to prevent the transmission of HIV, setting the tone from the very beginning. For example, access to prophylaxis is spotty in certain areas of the world, which has contributed to an increase in HIV cases, especially among sex workers and men who have sex with men. There is also an afternoon session on new emerging drugs designed to treat HIV alongside the antiretroviral medications already available. Included in this area is a two-part discussion on antiretroviral therapy and the challenges that come with effectively managing that therapy for each HIV-positive patient.

The second day (May 24) is primarily about finding a cure for HIV, and the opening session, "Searching for a Cure," makes it known from the start. There have been many advances in HIV treatment over the past 25 years; so much so that if detected early enough, HIV-positive people can live relatively normal lives. The treatment available now can make HIV seem like not much more than a chronic disease that must be managed regularly, but nothing terribly inconvenient. That being said, more work needs to be done toward finding a cure. Research in the field is exploring new ways to use the information available and combine that with new, innovative methods in order to possibly develop a vaccine for HIV in the not too distant future.

The third day (May 25) is a wrap-up of the first two, talking about other emerging infectious diseases, as well as revisiting antiretroviral therapy in the second half of the two-part talk on the subject.

Berkeley Creative Agency Develops New Packaging for Organic Cotton Reusable Towels Going to Whole Foods Market and The Container Store.

BERKELEY, Calif. The project included designing new packaging that explains how reusable towels offer an environmentally responsible alternative to paper towels.

RadiantBrands was commissioned to develop new packaging for People Towels that would emphasize the sustainability and consumer value of their reusable paper towels. They needed a package that would dramatize the value of reusable cotton towels and promote the B.Y.O. Towel™ concept. After conducting market research using Facebook and customer surveys, the RadiantBrands team determined that People Towels needed in-store packaging that was minimal, yet explained the full story of why consumers need to adopt reusable towels.

The result was a simple package that included information highlighting the benefits of reusable towels. For example, the average consumer uses 3,000 paper towels outside the home every year. By using People Towels, which are made from 100 percent organic Fair Trade cotton and printed using environmentally friendly dyes, customers will be saving trees and other natural resources. And the towels are highly absorbent, dry quickly, and soften with use and laundering.

The company will be sharing its experiences of the new software at a Mentor Graphics User Workshop in Munich on June 29, 2011. A key feature of vPlan it that it enables a new PCB design to be virtually assembled with components to check that everything fits appropriately and ESCATEC is now providing this as a service to customers called DFx (Designed For excellence).

-- Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery has been very gratified and fortunate to have the internationally recognized fine art photographer Barry Seidman for 3 of its art exhibitions. Barry won the gallery’s initial “Surfaces” exhibition with his minimalist image “Blue Wood” and again when he won the “Botanicals” exhibition with his image “Yellow Calla Lily”. Barry also received a Special Recognition award for his image “Santa Fe Moon” in the gallery’s “Landscapes” exhibition. He is now featured in the gallery’s Artist Showcase feature.

Barry grew up in New York's fast-paced advertising business establishing him as one of the top advertising print media photographers in the country. He specialized in still-life photography and worked for the top major brands in the world, eventually expanding his work to include celebrity photography and television commercials.

While working as a commercial photographer Seidman then started to devote his time to fine art photography, using his vast techniques and knowledge of lighting as a foundation. This led to various solo and group exhibitions, including Souvenirs, Bagged and Drinks, all while still connected to the advertising business.

Barry’s recent fine art exhibitions in Florida include his series, titled Bagged, at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre in Delray Beach. Bloomers - a new series of monumental photographs on canvas at Palm Beach Gardens City Hall. Seidman's Beached series was shown at Meyerhoefer Gallery in Lake Worth.
