AAA reveals rise in Indian private equity investment

Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA), the Boston-based organization that analyzes and promotes alternative investment options, has revealed that several reports, including one from Ernst & Young, are showing a rise in private equity investment in India.

Boston, MA, USA, June 29, 2011 -- Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA), an organization that analyzes and promotes alternative investment options, says that Indian private equity market is seeing a major increase in popularity.

The change in attitude towards private equity (PE) has been attributed to the sub-par stock market performance, according to a new report by Ernst & Young. The report claims that more businesses in the subcontinent are now taking the PE route to raising funds rather than going the stock market route through a public listing.

Global consultancy firm Grant Thornton said that over the past six years, Indian PE investment has grown to US$50 billion, up significantly on the US$31 billion raised through initial public offerings.

AAA’s analysis partner, Anthony Johnson, said that the news of the rising PE popularity in India was good for the alternative investment market in Asia. He stated, “It seems businesses in India are now actively seeking out solid PE opportunities, which helps to normalize alternative ways to make money in the Asian market as a whole.”

He continued, “Alternative investments are growing in popularity in the West, with more and more fund managers and individuals seeking out ethical and lucrative opportunities in emerging markets. Popular options are real estate investments and forestry investments in Brazil through firms like Obelisk International and Greenwood Management.”

Avinash Gupta, the head of Deloitte in India, explained why PR is growing among Indian businesses at the moment: "Whenever public markets go soft, PE has a good time because they have money. Besides, in India, corporate growth is driven on the basis of getting equity and possibly by leveraging it further. So they tap PE."

PE does, however, mean that businesses often need to wait longer for longer for their cash than they would if they had opted for an initial public offering.

Movea unveils full body motion capture and gesture recognition system with 9 axis IMU Body Area Network

Low cost, wireless MotionPods with SmartMotion™ technology prove valuable for gaming and sports applications.

Grenoble, France, June 28, 2011 -- Movea, a world leader in motion technology, now enables full body gesture recognition with its recently launched MEMS-based MotionPod™ solution for low cost, full body motion capture. The solution can be used to enable more realistic avatar motion for gaming or highly accurate biomechanical analysis for sports applications and is now available for B2B customers in the sports and entertainment markets.

Together with its jointly run research partner, the Motion Lab, Movea has developed a MEMS sensor-based, full body motion capture system, enabling a computerized avatar to reproduce a person’s body movements in real-time, with an accuracy that matches the efficiency of more expensive video systems.

By attaching MotionPods on a person’s body limbs, our system can track any movement in 3D to a fine degree of accuracy. We have developed a biomechanical model taking into account human constraints such as the fact that a knee can only bend forward,” explained Bruno Flament, Movea CTO. “This model therefore can reproduce human body motion realistically and accurately.”

In addition to tracking motion in real time, Movea has developed expertise in live gesture recognition. Movea has been pioneering gesture recognition for use in remote controls and computer mice. Gesture recognition allows consumers to control televisions and personal computers through simple hand gestures and the ability to create user-specific sign-on gestures. These techniques are now being used for the first time for full body gesture recognition. The full body positional information and motion is compared in real-time against a library of full body gestures. For example, in the case of a yoga or martial arts application, it can help guide the user into the correct position. For an avatar in a game, Movea’s technology speeds up the game action such as taking an arrow out of a quiver and firing it from a bow as the early detection feature recognizes the start of a gesture without having to wait for it to be completed, triggering the game action early and ensure a continuous user experience.

Our new approach offers many advantages,” explained David Rothenberg, World Wide Marketing Manager for Movea. “It is an incredibly simple to use, extremely accurate, and low cost solution that does not come with the expense or operational constraints of more complex video-based systems. We have packaged all our expertise in motion technology into an off the shelf, ready to use solution.”

Traditional full body motion capture typically uses dots or balls attached to a suit worn by actors with cameras capturing their movement. This efficient but costly system requires a fully equipped motion capture room, experienced users and sophisticated programs to convert this into usable information controlling computer avatars. The optical-based systems approach, whether it is for movie animation, sports or gaming, limits the field of action as the actor or player needs to remain in a defined Motion Capture Volume without obstacles that would obstruct camera’s vision.

Movea's solution uses up to 5 MotionPods, which each allow 6 Degrees-of-Freedom (DOF) for full 3D motion capture, and are fitted to key parts of the body to form a Body Area Network (BAN) that enables detailed full body motion to be captured in real time with dynamic accuracy of one degree. These Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) transmits highly accurate movement information through a 2.4GHz wireless link to a MotionController™ central receiver unit, plugged into a computer via a USB port.

MotionPod
The MotionPod™ is a patented hardware solution for motion sensing that incorporates a 3-axis accelerometer, a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis magnetometer in fully integrated package complete with software and wireless interface. The MotionPod measures 33x22x15mm (1.3”x0.8”x0.6”) and weighs 14g (0.5 oz). It is designed to clip onto a bracelet or strap for easy attachment to the body. Each MotionPod has a built-in, 2.4GHz wireless transmitter that uses Movea’s proprietary wireless technology to deliver a range of up to 30m (100 ft) with very low power consumption to maximise battery life, providing up to 8 hours of usage.

SmartMotion by Movea
Movea is a leading provider of motion processing chips, software, firmware, and IP for the Consumer Electronics industry. Movea's unique motion processing capabilities enable customers and partners to quickly add motion intelligence to their products, meaning reduced risk, cost, and Time-to-Market for delivering compelling new motion-based features that create more end-user value. UK Forestry returns up for fifth consecutive year says AAA

Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA) have announced that forestry investment returns in the UK have exceeded other major markets, such as commercial property, over the past year.

Boston, MA, USA, June 28, 2011 -- Investors in UK commercial forests have learnt this week that returns exceeded other major markets, such as commercial property, over the past year, explained Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA).

The alternative investment analysis organization said that the increased returns were great news for the international demand for alternatives - proving that ethical investments can also be lucrative ones.

The IPD UK Forestry Index shows that returns for 2010 reached 20 per cent, which is the highest rate since 2007. Strong demand was behind the growth in returns, according to the analysts at IPD.

AAA’s analysis partner, Anthony Johnson explained, “Strong demand from all sectors meant that forestry investment in the UK was protected from the downturn, which affected many other similar assets over the period."

Analysts at AAA added that forestry has also performed well as an asset in developing countries such as Brazil, where the government is encouraging foreign investment in plantations run by businesses like Greenwood Management, which are homing in on the opportunities created by demand from China, India and the domestic steel industry.

The IPD UK Forestry Index sponsors’ committee talked about why the asset is so lucrative for investors, "The UK’s commercial forests are a unique renewable asset. The growth of competing demands for both sustainably grown wood products and for wood based energy and heat generation underpin their value.”

They continued, "Forests have a key role to play in carbon capture and sustainable development. This value will be realised on a sustainable basis only if UK government policies balance the interests of the owners of forests and competing wood using sectors."

IPD's analysts commented that timber prices were up by 38.5 per cent in the year to March 2011 and that the returns investors should expect are closely linked to these prices. AAA explained that timber prices have risen globally and are up significantly in the US and Canada where demand for timber from emerging economies is quickly exceeding supply. This level of demand is only expected to rise even faster in the coming years - leading to a widely held expectation that timber prices will also grow further, along with the need to for sustainably produced timber.

How might you save over £1000 on your life insurance? - Easy..shop around!

Money-Minder.com finds there are savings to be made on life insurance and gives top tips on how to get the best deals.

Sleaford, Lincolnshire, UK, June 28, 2011 -- Research by life and protection comparison website Money-minder.com has found that the lowest and highest premiums for simple level term life assurance bought online without advice could differ by as much as 30%.

Using one example, a 31 year old male non-smoker taking out £200,000 worth of level term life assurance for 25 years found the lowest guaranteed ‘no-fee’ premium of £9.60 pm compared to £13.58 pm from another insurer. Over the life time of the policy the difference would amount to a saving of £1194.00.

For smokers the savings could be even higher. A 31 year old male smoker taking out the same cover could pay as little as £15.59 pm for a guaranteed premium on a ‘no-fee’ deal but one insurer wanted £23.24 pm for exactly the same risk. The saving over the life-time of the policy would be £2295.00.

Women can save money too. A 27 year old female non-smoker taking out £200,000 of level term life cover for 25 years would find guaranteed ‘no-fee’ premiums between £6.40 pm and £10.00 pm on Money-minder.com. The saving made by choosing the lower premium would be £1080.00 over the term of the policy.

Ray Black, MD and founder of Money-minder.com commented: "With something simple like level term life insurance it’s very difficult to argue that it’s worth paying a bit more to get insurance from one provider over another. The trigger for making a claim is indisputable so there should be very little between the services insurers provide. Although one insurer may say that they can issue a settlement a bit quicker than another you'd have to ask yourself if that’s worth paying an extra £1000 or more for.”

10 Top tips for getting the best life insurance deals

1.Shop around! Use trusted comparison sites like www.money-minder.com to compare lots of insurers quickly.
2.Don't buy life insurance from your mortgage provider. - Previous research by Money-minder has shown that you may pay more for life insurance from your lender than by arranging it yourself.
3.Consider paying a one-off admin fee to get your insurance set up. The monthly premiums will be cheaper and you may save money in the long run.
4.Watch out for 'reviewable' premiums - Insurers can increase reviewable premiums throughout the life of the policy so what may start off as cheap insurance can become expensive. Choose ‘guaranteed’ premiums which are fixed for the life of the policy.
5.Get the right amount of cover. Some websites now have handy tools like Money-minder’s finance navigators to help you decide the type and amount of cover you need. Do your homework to ensure you know what you want before you start looking for quotes.
6.Watch out for 'lead farmers' - some websites claiming to compare life insurance are only after your personal details so that they can sell them on to insurance brokers. Be careful what personal information you give out. If in doubt give a false name and telephone number when just looking for quotes. You can give your genuine information when you find a company you trust and want to deal with.
7.Give up smoking! - Smokers pay much more for their life insurance cover than non-smokers because of the harm it can do to their health. However, once you've given up smoking for a year many insurers will rate you as a non-smoker and you'll be able to arrange cheaper life cover.
8.If you're replacing an expensive older life insurance policy with a cheaper new one, make sure your new policy is on risk before you cancel the old one. You want to avoid any periods where you are not covered.
9.Answer all questions on your application honestly. Previous medical conditions may affect the cost of your cover but if you don't disclose all relevant information your family may have problems making a claim should you die.
10.Consider the advantages of writing your life insurance policy 'in trust'. These may include avoiding some inheritance tax, your family not having to wait for probate in order to access the settlement and better control over who benefits from the policy.

The Speed Traders' Edgar Perez to CNBC's Oriel Morrison, Criticism of High-Frequency Trading Phenomenon Unfair

Edgar Perez, Author of The Speed Traders: An Insider's Look at the New High-Frequency Trading Phenomenon That is Transforming the Investing World, Published by McGraw-Hill Inc, Interviewed Today by CNBC Cash Flow’s Oriel Morrison.

(June 27, 2011, New York) -- Edgar Perez, Author, The Speed Traders: An Insider's Look at the New High-Frequency Trading Phenomenon That is Transforming the Investing World, explained in detail the role high-frequency trading has been playing in the equity markets to CNBC Cash Flow’s Oriel Morrison; the interview is available on CNBC’s website at http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=2023403523. High-frequency trading, in which computers may buy and sell thousands of shares in fractions of a second, had come under criticism after the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost almost 1,000 points intraday on May 6, 2010, before recovering just as quickly.

The Speed Traders' Edgar Perez to CNBC's Oriel Morrison, Criticism of High-Frequency Trading Phenomenon Unfair

Mr. Perez described high-frequency trading as the natural progression of technology applied to the investing and trading worlds. In the process, high-frequency trading has certainly unmasked structural issues in the U.S. equity markets that are currently being examined by legislators and regulators in an effort to further strengthen financial markets. He indicated that, on balance, the impact of high-frequency trading is positive for all other market participants thanks to the increased liquidity it provides to retail and institutional investors.

High-frequency traders replace traditional specialists in providing liquidity in a much more competitive frame work. Liquid and efficient capital markets are extremely important for economic development. While some feel that high-frequency traders spending millions of dollars on infrastructure to be a few microseconds faster than the other guy, is somehow, from a social perspective, not money "well spent", it can be argued that this is just the way that competitive markets find equilibrium.

As expressed by Stuart Theakston, Head of Quantitative Research and Automated Trading with GLC and one of the practitioners featured in The Speed Traders, high-frequency trading has all the attributes required to make a perfect scapegoat:

- It is hard to understand, or at least, it takes a bit of effort to understand (even professional long-only institutional investors have difficulty understanding it)
- It is fairly exclusive, as the firms involved, either have no incentive to talk about what they do (because they are proprietary trading firms and don't need to attract external capital), or are not allowed to (because they are hedge funds and have regulatory constraints on marketing themselves)
- It employs individual participants having very high levels of academic qualifications, mostly PhDs
- It has some large dollar numbers associated with it (though more in terms of turnover than profitability, as further detailed in The Speed Traders)
- It has lots of terminology associated with it that sounds geeky and confusing to the uninitiated: ‘microsecond’, ‘co-location’, ‘momentum ignition’, ‘temporal arbitrage’ etc.
- Some intelligent, well informed and eminently quotable people are railing against it (Mario Gabelli, Paul Wilmott, Richard Bookstaber, among others)
- It is prone to occasionally be a contributory factor (or, in fact, its switching off was a contributory factor) to events perceivable by the public, like the "flash-crash"

The Speed Traders, http://www.TheSpeedTraders.com, published by McGraw-Hill Inc., is the most comprehensive, revealing work available on the most important development in trading in generations. High-frequency trading will no doubt play an ever larger role as computer technology advances and the global exchanges embrace fast electronic access. The Speed Traders explains everything there is to know about how today's high-frequency traders make millions-one cent at a time.”

Mr. Perez is widely regarded as the pre-eminent networker in the specialized area of high-frequency trading. He is the founder of Golden Networking and host of High-Frequency Trading Happy Hour business receptions (http://www.hfthappyhour.com) in New York City, which have drawn the world's top industry practitioners. He has been interviewed by CNBC, TheStreet.com, Bloomberg and Channel NewsAsia, and engaged as speaker at Harvard Business School's 17th Annual Venture Capital & Private Equity Conference, Columbia Business School's Career Management Center and Alumni Club of New York, High-Frequency Trading Leaders Forum 2011 (New York, Hong Kong, Chicago, Sao Paulo, Singapore), CFA Singapore, and Hong Kong Securities Institute, among others prestigious forums.

Mr. Perez was a vice president at Citi, a senior consultant at IBM, and a consultant at McKinsey & Co. in New York City. Mr. Perez has an undergraduate degree from Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería, Lima, Peru (1994), a Master of Administration from Universidad ESAN, Lima, Peru (1997) and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School, with a dual major in Finance and Management (2002). He is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma international honor society. Mr. Perez resides in the New York City area and is an accomplished salsa and hustle dancer.

Mr. Perez is one of the great business networkers and motivators on the lecture circuit; he is available worldwide for the following speaking engagements: Present and Future of High-Frequency Trading, The Real Story behind the "Flash Crash", Networking for Financial Executives, and Business Networking for Success.

HIV Workshop Focuses on Curative Strategies

The 5th International Workshop on HIV Persistence is coming up at the end of the year, and anticipation in the HIV research community is increasing as the event draws closer.

Toulon, France, June 27, 2011 -- The 5th International Workshop on HIV Persistence is coming up at the end of the year, and anticipation in the HIV research community is increasing as the event draws closer. It'll be held in the West Indies this year. The location was chosen for its pleasant climate, but don't let the resorts and tropical breezes fool you. Some top quality HIV research will be disseminated at this event, and it's a tough ticket to acquire. Throughout the eight years of its existence, the Workshop on HIV Persistence has been a trend setter in research on the topic of HIV reservoirs, and why their role in finding a cure for HIV is so important.

During the workshop, seven major topics will be discussed: Basic Science & Animal Models of Viral Persistence; Cellular Biology & Reservoirs; Immunology & Reservoirs; Resistance & Reservoirs; Pharmacology, Compartments & Reservoirs; New Therapeutic Approaches; and Primary HIV Infection & Eradication Issues. Within each topic, a set of speakers will discuss their research with the group. Over the course of three days, researchers and physicians from around the world will come together and learn new ideas and innovative strategies for attacking HIV, in the hopes of one day finding a cure for the disease.

This workshop is not open to general public; in fact, there is only room for around 150 delegates. In order to attend the workshop, a prospective attendee must submit an application first. This limits the audience to only those who are truly interested in both attending and hearing what is going to be discussed at the workshop. The workshop may be taking place at a resort facility in a tropical setting, but it's nearly a 24/7 working holiday!

The 5th International Workshop is being held in St. Maarten, West Indies, from December 6-9, 2011. After an initial welcome meeting on December 6th, the workshop begins in earnest the following morning, continuing for the next three days. Some of the best minds in the HIV research field will be there, as will select policy makers who are involved in the HIV/AIDS field. The amount of new presentations on the subjects being discussed is very encouraging, and for the few people who do get to go, the information they learn will help them in their future research toward finding an HIV cure. Everyone who attends this workshop benefits in some way.

The workshop is supported by the NIH (National Institutes of Health) and the ANRS (French Agency for AIDS and Hepatitis Research).

The event is sponsored by Investment News and is the place to learn about the many different asset classes that can offer alternative investment opportunities as opposed to traditional investments such as equities, which are sometimes hit hard when the economy struggles.

Anthony Johnson of AAA stated, “This event really is a must-see for anyone looking to spread the risk in their investment portfolio and select an alternative asset class that with withstand even the toughest economic conditions.”

Mr Johnson recommends considering forestry as a lucrative and ethical option. Through investment firms like Greenwood Management, which runs plantations in developing countries like Brazil, more and more people now have the opportunity to buy a piece of forest land and make cash as their trees grow.

It’s a simply enough premise,” explained Johnson. “Trees grow - therefore, money invested in trees grows and owners can decide when they want to sell. If timber prices fall, they can simply hold off until the market picks up,” he added.

The Alternative Investment Conference, which takes place October 2 and 3 at the Westin Chicago North, will provide guidance on how alternative investments can complement and enhance existing asset management and investment strategies, which techniques are best for individual investors, and the pros and cons of various assets, investment structures and vehicles.

The event organizers said, "Attendees will enhance their ability to diversify clients' portfolios, mitigate risk and enhance overall performance through the use of alternatives."

Towards HIV Curative Strategies - The Next Step Starts Now

Scientific advances towards an HIV cure will be the main topic of the second day of the "International Symposium on HIV & Emerging Infectious Diseases".

Toulon, France, June 23, 2011 -- Although there have been major antiretroviral therapy improvements in the last 15 years, there is still no cure for HIV. Dr. Alain Lafeuillade, chair of the "International Symposium on HIV & Emerging Infectious Diseases" just published an article in HIV Clinical Trials to sump-up recent advances towards a cure and define the agenda: "Potential Strategies for an HIV Infection Cure". HIV Clinical Trials 2011; 12 (3):121-30. DOI10.1310/hct1203-121.

Lafeuillade stated that research must continue to look towards HIV curative strategies by eliminating the virus from the body completely. He explained that there are limits that may never be overcome with antiretroviral therapy. There are two possible ways generally thought of now towards a cure: these methods are activation of latent HIV, and gene therapy.

The first method removes latent HIV infected cells. Latent HIV means that the HIV is not actively replicating. Current antiretroviral drugs work by blocking replication, so they do not work on latent HIV. Thus, the latent HIV will reactivate if therapy is stopped, and the HIV infection is renewed. The result is that antiretrovirals can never completely remove HIV from the body. Dr. Lafeuillade says that there are gaps in the understanding, including exactly how HIV latency works, and the consequences of activating HIV.

The second method towards HIV curative strategies is gene therapy. Gene therapy is in the early stages of clinical testing. In these tests, the genetic information in a cell is modified so that it becomes resistant to HIV infection. Cells are taken from a patient, genetically modified, and injected back into the patient. Other avenues for treatment include gene therapy to block immune cells from infection, turning off HIV genes, and heightening the immune systems response. These new methods will be presented on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at ISHEID. ‘Searching for a Cure’ will be the main topic of this day at the International Symposium of HIV & Emerging Infectious Diseases.

HIV infection is still a global threat. It has major challenges ahead. Addressing socioeconomic aspects are vital. Access to HIV prevention, treatment, and care are in danger. ISHEID strives to promote current scientific advances, and strengthen the global pledge to continue to fight aids and seek cures. Through ISHEID, key opinion leaders meet. Participants include clinicians, specialists, professors, biologists, researchers, and practitioners. Sessions, presentations, symposia, workshops, and plenary lectures are scheduled. This ensures that a platform to present new scientific advances towards HIV curative strategies is being utilized. Dialogue on major issues concerning HIV/AIDS occurs, and infectious diseases need the same global approach. The ISHEID congress makes this possible.

Visit impact investment summit says AAA

Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA), the alternative investment consultancy, is inviting people who want to make a difference to the world while making money to visit this year's Impact Investing Summit.

Boston, MA, USA, June 23, 2011 -- As impact investing becomes an increasingly valid option for people who want to make a difference while making money, this year’s Impact Investing Summit, is likely to be a popular event. This is according to alternative and ethical investment advocacy organization, Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA), which is urging interested parties to attend.

The summit is running from 20-21 September in Washington and will focus on equipping investors with the information they need to make a profitable decision on where to invest their money. The event’s website says it will: "Arm you with the tools and knowledge you need to commit to tomorrow’s most profitable impact investments from water and energy to health and housing."

JP Morgan last year stated, "Impact Investing will reveal itself to be one of the most powerful changes within the asset management industry in the years to come.” This statement reflects the general consensus that investing in emerging economies now will generate benefits in the future. Not just for the investors, but for the enterprises and small business that receive the funding – and of course the wider communities that share in their upturn in fortunes.

Individuals and funds alike are increasingly looking towards ethical choices when examining their options for where to invest. If it is possible to help communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America to prosper while generating healthy income, who wouldn't choose this option?” asked AAA’s analyst partner Anthony Johnson, who is a major advocate of the impact investment model. He also supports ethical investments such as the opportunities offered in Brazil through firms like Greenwood Management that run plantations of non-native timber sustainably to help reduce deforestation.

AAA realizes the path to finding the right investment option is complicated and complex, so attending this year’s summit really is a must for all those interested in a serious foray into the market. The summit organizers hope to equip those attending with guidance on matters including ‘what’s worth investing in?’. This is important as it will provide information about which investments and impact areas offer the lowest risk and the highest returns.

Representatives from funds including the Shell Foundation, Water.org and the Calvert Foundation will be on hand to give advice and offer expert guidance.

FRA welcomes Sustainable Forestry Initiative pilot bioenergy project

Forestry Research Associates has announced its support for the new woody biomass procurement project, launched by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

Bainbridge Island, WA, USA, June 23, 2011 -- A new woody biomass procurement project, launched by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), has attracted support from Forestry Research Associates (FRA).

The research and advisory consultancy provides fresh outlooks and consultancy services on all matters surrounding forestry investment, sustainability and forestry management and has spoken out in support of the new pilot scheme. The plan is to support sustainable forestry management by helping US-based bioenergy companies to purchase woody biomass.

Both parties agree that bioenergy is a major market for the forestry sector and that in order to maintain the health of the resource, ‘appropriate steps should be in place for the procurement of forest fibre.’

The focus is on developing a procurement system that is fair and responsible,” explained FRA’s analysis partner Peter Collins. His view was backed by TNC’s Chief External Officer, Glenn Prickett, who added, “Woody biomass can be a great source of renewable energy and offers an excellent incentive so landowners can maintain their forests as forests – as long the forest is managed responsibly.”

The main technique will be to impose the Sustainable Forestry initiative’s Fiber Sourcing requirements on the procurement processes. This will be the key to the whole project, according to Prickett who added, “TNC is interested in this project with SFI to explore how the SFI Standard’s unique Fiber Sourcing requirements can address the need of responsible procurement of woody biomass for bioenergy facilities while managing for important forest values.”

FRA added that the initiative is intended to ensure that all sources of woody biomass are responsible, which will help add legitimacy to the industry as a whole and will also help to nurture it as a major source of income for forestry managers and investors.

The SFI has already made great inroads into helping to promote sustainable forestry in the US. Some 180 million acres of forest now carry the certified SFI forest management standard mark, which makes it the largest standard of its kind in the world.

The fact that the SFI and TNC are adding their weight to the bioenergy industry will help hugely to improve its reputation and encourage investment and fair procurement processes,” added Peter Collins.
