US Forest land planning rule welcomed by FRA

A new planning rule that could increase forest land in the United States is being supported by research and analysis consultancy, Forestry Research Associates (FRA).

Seattle, United States, January 27, 2012 -- A new planning rule that could increase forest land in the United States is being supported by research and analysis consultancy, Forestry Research Associates (FRA).

The new planning rule that is intended to help protect the country’s 193-acres of national forest, according to a statement from Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

The planning rule, which will be known as the Final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for the National Forest System Land Management Planning Rule, will provide better protection for the National Forest System and the rural communities that depend on forestry and live near the forests of North America. Secretary Vilsack explained, “The most collaborative rule making effort in agency history has resulted in a strong framework to restore and manage our forests and watersheds and help deliver countless benefits to the American people.”

The plan outlines some of the ‘preferred alternatives’ to the existing plan, which will focus more on protecting communities and maintaining forests for the benefit of the people. Encouraging managed forestry and sustainable approaches to the forestry industry is seen as essential for all densely forested countries, according to FRA’s analysis partner, Peter Collins.

He added, “Reforestation projects are essential to help ensure that the forestry industry is run in a fully sustainable way that provides assurance that generations to come will both be able to enjoy the forests but also use them to make a living.”

FRA claims that encouraging investment in forestry, and particularly in sustainable plantation projects in developing countries, such as the projects run by Greenwood Management in Brazil, can help to provide protection for forests and the forestry industry.

The plans attracted support from the US Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell, who stated, “Under our preferred alternative, plan revisions would take less time, cost less money, and provide stronger protections for our lands and water. Finalizing a new rule will move us forward in managing our forests and grasslands, and will create or sustain jobs and income for local communities around the country.”

FPL's Cape Canaveral modernization creates jobs and will save customers money

The large bang in August 2010 that signaled the demolition of FPL's 1960s-era Cape Canaveral Power Plant in Cocoa, Fla., has been replaced by different sounds of progress. Approximately 500 workers are currently constructing FPL’s state-of-the-art Cape Canaveral Next Generation Clean Energy Center.

Juno Beach, FL, January 27, 2012 -- The large bang in August 2010 that signaled the demolition of FPL's 1960s-era Cape Canaveral Power Plant in Cocoa, Fla., has been replaced by different sounds of progress.

The Port St. John construction site is now alive with warning horns and the rattling din of diesel cranes and trucks. Cranes lift structures that exceed 370 tons, as pipefitters and welders in hard hats piece the new clean energy center together.

Approximately 500 workers are currently constructing FPL’s state-of-the-art Cape Canaveral Next Generation Clean Energy Center. Scheduled to open in 2013, the center will use high-efficiency, combined-cycle natural gas technology to generate power with 33 percent less fuel per megawatt-hour, far fewer emissions than the former plant, and save customers of about $600 million in fuel charges over and above the cost of building it.

The workers represent an economic boost, which is being recognized and appreciated by local residents and Brevard County officials. According to Florida Today, their presence increases revenue for local real estate, restaurant and retail industries. In 2014, the plant’s first full year of operation, it is expected to provide $11.7 million in new tax revenue for local governments. Brevard County Commissioner Robin Fisher said the $4.8 million county portion will help spur other economic development in northern Brevard through a special North Brevard Economic Development Zone.

Norm Thomas, a seasonal resident who winters in a home park north of the plant, appreciates FPL’s investment in his community.

“I know that’s a huge expense for them,” he told Florida Today. “But it’s good for the public, and it’s good for the environment.”

FPL is investing more than $1 billion to build the new facility, which will produce 1,250 megawatts of power, a 56 percent increase from the 800-megawatt capacity of the old generators.

“FPL’s investments in recent years to modernize its power plant fleet - phasing out older, oil-fired units with cleaner, more efficient natural gas-fired generating capacity - are helping keep FPL’s typical customer bill the lowest in the state, while providing top quartile reliability,” said Construction Project Director Dave Santilli. “By installing state-of-the-art, combined-cycle natural gas turbines at several FPL plants, the company has cut fuel costs by $5 billion since 2001 and passed those savings on to customers.”

Ospero launches 'Distribution as a Service' data privacy solution

Global Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) firm, Ospero, is proud to announce the launch of its new 'Distribution as a Service' (DaaS) offering, to mark the fifth annual International Data Privacy Day on 28 January 2012.

London, UK, January 25, 2012 -- Global Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) firm, Ospero, is proud to announce the launch of its new 'Distribution as a Service' (DaaS) offering, to mark the fifth annual International Data Privacy Day on 28 January 2012.

With EC Justice Commissioner Viviane Redings' 'Privacy by Design' ethos at its heart, Ospero's new DaaS offering will help the software industry prepare for forthcoming changes to the European Commission Data Directive to be announced in Q1 2012 by Viviane Reding.

The Ospero DaaS platform is aimed at SaaS, ISVs and Open Source vendors who want and need to embrace local Data Protection acts in order to comply in jurisdictions outside of their own domestic markets.
The platform was created using the Ospero ‘6pillars’ methodology, which embraces the core principles of :-

- Security
- Sovereignty
- Service
- Scale
- Speed
- Simplicity

Jason Currill, CEO of Ospero, commented “Since the advent of the cloud, geopolitical barriers have been all but eliminated and the various data protection acts – most of which were formed before SaaS, the cloud and in some cases even before email - are now woefully inadequate to cope with global data privacy and sovereignty concerns we see today.”

Ospero recognises these issues and have created a global grid of ubiquitous data centres located in key business hubs across EMEA, North America and Asia Pac - running best of breed VMware and VCE Vblocks, all accessed through a single management portal.

Mr Currill added, “We designed the Ospero vGrid (OvG) to allow vendors to eliminate as many barriers to the adoption of their technologies as possible. By using the OvG DaaS platform, not only are SaaS vendors lowering latency and data transmission costs, they are also alleviating psychological and legal barriers to adoption.”

Ospero explains that above the SMB space in most countries outside North America Mid Market and Enterprise, customers are hesitant to invest in SaaS based platforms because of the complex legal landscape around the issue of where the data resides. Now, with the Ospero DaaS platform software companies can deploy their application in over 19 countries in four continents. As usual, they just pay for what they use and manage their global estate through a single portal. Ospero also operates a single global SLA and typical 24x7x365 support.

“We believe the upcoming amendments to the European Commission’s Data Directive will have similar effect on the IT industry as Sarbanes Oxley had on the Finance industry,” explained Mr Currill. “Customers are aware of this and SaaS vendors who plan ahead for these amendments and utilise a DaaS model to sell their offerings will not only be complying with changing legislative landscape, but signalling to their customers and partners they genuinely take data privacy and sovereignty seriously.”

The Gateway to 10,000 Illnesses by Robert Boyd, D.O. released world-wide as eBook

Book challenges the broad world of medicine and promises a reassessment of the causative processes of many disorders.

St. Louis, MO, USA (January 25, 2012) -- The Gateway to 10,000 Illnesses by Robert Boyd, D.O., (http://www.biocranialinstitute.com) which is a challenge to the broad world of medicine and promises a reassessment of the causative processes of many disorders, has been released world-wide in eBook form.

Author Dr. Robert Boyd suggests what he sees as the hitherto missing link in the world of medicine. Boyd's writings are refreshing, stimulating and thought provoking - even humorous - and challenge the accepted norms in wide areas of conventional and alternative medicine. His unique concept is totally absent from any current teaching and will challenge the basics of widely held views, conventional or alternative.

“I have attempted to convey my own belief that, at the core of control and organization of every single activity, cellular, organ or system, is involuntary movement. I believe that until there is recognition of the existence of movement there will continue to be limitations to healthcare delivery,” Dr. Boyd said.

The Gateway to 10,000 Illnesses describes in straightforward and largely non-technical language the core mechanism - the engine - of what makes us tick and his conclusions on why this hitherto little understood area is essential for addressing almost any disorder. The author's style is almost conversational and leads the reader logically step by step to his conclusions. In doing so he questions a number of accepted teachings, particularly in the area of "structural medicine" and goes on to plea for fellow professionals to dispassionately examine the accuracy and value of his findings. Dr. Boyd has been at the forefront of cranial research and innovation for over 30 years.

Dr. Boyd added, “If we refuse to be distracted by the often siren promises of the complex, the answers may well be found in the simple. Let us be always mindful that the organism never wishes to be dysfunctional, was designed to be self-repairing and will repair if facilitated to do so.”

“After more than 20 years working and studying and teaching in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) and before that living with pain for decades, I am so grateful to discover Dr. Robert Boyd's work. Written for the practitioner and patient/client alike, this book sheds light on the ever darkening picture of the decline of health worldwide.” -- Tom Tessereau, CBC, LMT, NCTMB.

The Gateway to 10,000 Illnesses by Robert Boyd, D.O., in eBook form, (ISBN 9781937520342), was published on November 15, 2011 by First Edition Design eBook Publishing http://www.firsteditiondesignpublishing.com based in Sarasota, Florida USA. It is available at Amazon’s Kindle store, Apple’s iBookstore, Barnes & Noble’s Book Nook, Sony, Diesel and Google’s eBookstore, which supports numerous eReader devices. In addition to those outlets, The Gateway to 10,000 Illnesses was distributed in eBook format worldwide to over 100,000 other sources including libraries, schools colleges, universities and additional online booksellers.

Stamp collecting can be 'profitable' asserts AAA

Alternative investment advocacy group AAA has noted the increasing popularity of stamp collecting as a means of generating funds through a hobby.

Boston, MA, USA, January 25, 2012 -- Stamp collecting is becoming increasingly popular as a money-making hobby and can actually prove profitable in these economic times, claims Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA).

The statement from the alternative investment advocacy group follows the announcement of solid profits at a UK-based stamp dealer, Stanley Gibbons. The firm expects its profits to rise to £5 million this year as a growing number of investors put their cash into tangible, alternative asset classes, such as stamps, antiques, art, wine, precious metals, real estate and timber.

The chief executive of Stanley Gibbons, Michael Hall, said, "We have had people calling up from all over the world saying they want to put £1m into stamps, asking us to advise them.”

AAA claims that the recent sale of the largest stamp collection in the world for some £20 million last year proves that there is money in stamps. “If anyone had any doubt, just look at Sir Humphrey Cripp’s collection,” stated AAA’s analysis partner, Anthony Johnson. “He bought the stamps in 1972 for just £29,000…now that’s a serious rate of return.”

Some of the rarest stamps are among the most valuable things on the planet, including the 1855 Treskilling Yellow, which weighs just 0.03 grams and is worth £5 million. Its rarity is based around the fact that its yellow colour was actually a mistake and it should actually have been green. Sir Humphrey’s collection also had a number of Penny Blue stamps, which are among the rarest in the stamp world.

Anthony Johnson explained that people are increasingly looking for alternative assets in which to invest, as a result of the volatility of traditional assets, and in particular stocks an shares.

AAA supports a range of alternative asset classes, not least forestry investment through firms like Greenwood Management, which specialises in forestry plantation investments in Brazil.

After Three Years In The Making The PB Reality Show Makes Its Debut

Premiere to be held at Ultra Star Cinemas on January 31st 2012 at 7:00PM.

San Diego, California (January 24, 2012) -- After 3 years of parties, bikini contests, and lots of drama, the first episode of the PB Reality Show will make its much anticipated debut this Tuesday at the Ultra Star Cinemas. The show features the adventures of Jim Lawlor (a.k.a. the PB Millionaire) and his lavish lifestyle in Pacific Beach. From the majestic castle on a hill he calls home, to the gorgeous girls that surround him.

“It’s all about celebrating life,” said Lawlor, founder of the PB Reality Show. However, Lawlor did not always find himself living this extravagant lifestyle. He was once struggling to make ends meet - even sleeping in his car until he could afford an office space to serve as his bedroom. These experiences made a great impact on Lawlor, and he now is commonly seen providing food for the homeless, donating money to his favorite charities, and helping those in need.

According to Lawlor, it wasn't all fun and parties; there was also hard work and obstacles to overcome to put on the show. Some highlights include the first Miss Pacific Beach contest, costume contests, good drama, and some surprises.

Fans will have the opportunity to meet Jim and the cast at the Double Tree Hotel, next door to the theater, before and after the show. The show will be released to the general public on Lawlor's own TV network called Pacific Beach Reality TV starting on February 16th. The show already has a huge fan base on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/thepbrealityshow) even prior to the first episode’s release with over 40,000 fans and counting.

Lawlor was once painting houses as a means to get by when he, ironically, came up with an invention for spray painting goggles that eventually made him a millionaire. Since becoming successful, he enjoys celebrating life with friends and lives what he calls “the California dream.” Several people suggested that he make a show about his lifestyle and so he did.

The premiere will be held at the Ultra Star Cinemas, 7510 Hazard Center Drive, San Diego, CA 92108.

Now could be great time for timber investors, claims FRA

FRA said that now is a great time to have investments in forestry as the construction industry in the US begins to recover from its long slump.

Seattle, United States, January 24, 2012 -- Forestry Research Associates (FRA) said that now is a great time to have investments in forestry as the construction industry in the US begins to recover from its long slump.

A recent report in Zacks Investment Research said that recent figures suggest that 2012 could be the year that the construction industry grows again. This is great news for those who own trees or have cash invested in to timber-based exchange traded funds, who have been hanging on to their assets in recent years. Many investors would have avoided selling their timber assets over the past couple of years due to the slowing demand in the construction industry. As a result, their trees will be even larger now and will be worth more as a result.

“This is the great selling point for timber investments,” stated FRA’s analysis partner, Pete Collins. He added, “If timber prices look anything less than strong, investors can simply hold onto their assets and wait until the prices increase. In the meantime, their assets grow further and are worth more when they finally choose to sell.”

The report by Zacks also claims that forestry has an extremely low correlation with traditional asset classes and therefore, provides an extremely effective way to diversify a portfolio. FRA claims that more and more investors are turning to alternative asset classes, such as timber, to help them to spread the risk within their investment portfolio.

Zacks' report talks about direct investment routes, such as through plantation schemes like the one run by Greenwood Management in Brazil, where investors buy up pieces of plantation land and receive returns based on the cyclical sale of timber assets. It also talked about investing in funds that are based on timber, which can offer a slightly more risky option for those interested in putting some of their cash in forestry.

AAA welcomes New Rare Coin Fund

A new alternative investment fund, which focuses on rare coins, has been welcomed by AAA.

Boston, MA, USA, January 24, 2012 -- A new alternative investment fund, which focuses on rare coins, has been welcomed by Alternative Asset Analysis, an alternative investment advocacy group.

The fund is being launched by several rare coin enthusiasts, together with a wall street fund manager, who together have formed Certified Assets Management International (CAMI) in order to launch their rare coin product.

The fund managers will help investors to manage their coin and precious metal purchases and will also launch a fund worth $250 million, invested in the market. One of the experts involved in the fund is Robert L Higgins, who managed a rare coin fund in the past, successfully generating returns of 17 per cent. Higgins told press: "Certified Assets Management has a proven track record of over a decade of successful rare coin funds management.”

He added, “This is an excellent time for the numismatic market and Wall Street to do it the right way.”

AAA’s analysis partner, Anthony Johnson agree with Higgins, arguing that now was a great time to launch alternative funds as the appetite for alternatives was enormous thanks to the ongoing volatility of the stock markets.

Another spokesperson for CAMI explained, "The investment community has a need for alternative investments that are truly uncorrelated with traditional investments. Using rare coins as an asset class and investment vehicle provides an opportunity for investors to diversify their investment portfolios.”

AAA is a supporter of alternative investments as a way to direct investment cash into ethical and more productive directions, while offering investors the chance of diversification and strong returns. Mr Johnson added, “We are mainly on the side of environmentally and socially responsible investments, such as the forestry plantation scheme offered by firms like Greenwood Management in Brazil.”

“However,” added Johnson, “ethics and profits do not have to be mutually exclusive."

FPL's Turkey Point Plant to Help Power Economic Recovery in Miami-Dade County

As 5,000 new contractors begin work at FPL's Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant, local officials herald a revved up economy powered by clean, affordable energy and the people who help FPL create it at one of the company's two nuclear power plants.

Juno Beach, FL, January 21, 2012 -- As 5,000 new contractors begin work at FPL's Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant, local officials herald a revved up economy powered by clean, affordable energy and the people who help FPL create it at one of the company's two nuclear power plants.

FPL has brought in thousands of new temporary, contract, and permanent workers to Turkey Point to upgrade the plant. They will perform what's called a "nuclear uprate" - enhancing equipment to improve the plant's efficiency. The project has created 5,000 temporary jobs for workers who are slated to pump an additional $11 million into the local economy each month.

“This uprate is the type of project that will have long-term positive effects for our economic recovery, which is the reason I am here today,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez. “Collectively the new workers will spend close to $11 million per month in the local economy and that means they're staying in local homes and hotels, and that means they're eating at restaurants owned by our neighbors, and that’s exactly the kind of economic development and growth we need during these times in Miami-Dade County.”

This project will serve as an economic engine - driving an influx of new dollars into the local economy and generating work for 5,000 people in a region where unemployment is higher than average.

“The project is already having a positive impact - I've gotten a job and it looks like my husband may be fortunate enough to be offered a job here as well,” said new FPL employee Michelle Cruz. “It’s definitely a great thing for us.”

What’s more, the plant uprates and improvements will put more money in customers' pockets, too.

“Investments like those FPL is making at Turkey Point keep FPL’s residential customer bills the lowest in the state of Florida and a full 25 percent below the national average. In fact, our investments in Turkey Point and a similar plant in St. Lucie County are expected to save our customers more than $4.8 billion compared to fossil fuel costs over the projects’ lifetimes,” said Pamela Rauch, FPL vice president of development and external affairs.

At Turkey Point, FPL is not just working towards a healthy economy, but is also working to support a healthy environment. With upgrades and replacements implemented, the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant will reap an additional 15 percent capacity, equivalent to the annual usage of approximately 271,000 residents. The added capacity for clean, renewable energy will reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 30 million tons - as much as removing 180,000 cars off the road annually.

FlashPark announces response to Welsh parking ticket complaint

FlashPark has reacted swiftly to language problems concerning a parking ticket issued in the English language in Wales.

London, UK, January 20, 2012 -- Private parking enforcement agency FlashPark has reacted swiftly to language problems concerning a parking ticket issued in the English language in Wales.

Noel Jones, 54, and his daughter Bethan, 26, were handed the ticket after using the car park at Penrhyndeudraeth village Memorial Hall. The pair, whose first language is Welsh, stated they feel it is unfair that their ticket - along with the signs around the car park - are displayed in English and have refused to pay until they receive acknowledgement of the parking transgression in their native Welsh.

Many of the signs in the area surrounding the hall are provided in both Welsh and English. But according to reports from the Memorial Hall committee, there had previously been Welsh signs in place in the car park but they had been vandalised.

FlashPark is in the process of investigating the legalities of language when it comes to parking notices. But as a message of fair play, Costas Constantino, a spokesman for FlashPark, confirmed that the group will be issuing a translation of the ticket in Welsh to be posted to the pair as soon as possible.

Mr Constantino stated: “This will be a translation to Welsh of the parking ticket originally sent received, We are happy to do the same for other motorists that face the same situation. At the end of the translation we will include some of the top tips on how to save money when motoring.

“FlashPark will always act in good faith in any dispute which will reflects the rights of the landowner and motorist.”

Jobosabe.com, The Trusted Friend Employment Network Looking for Early Adopters

Locally focused social networking site for job seekers is offering incentives for people willing to test-drive their site.

Austin, Texas, January 19, 2012 -- Jobosabe.com, (pronounced jah-bo-sah-be) is going into beta this week and looking for job seekers who would like to test drive their new platform. The locally based social Jobworking “Talent Community” is going live shortly in major markets around the US. Partnering with major newspapers, the website will deliver a social networking experience that is primarily focused on local jobs, local employers and local candidates.

Traditional Social Networking sites are large, cumbersome and nationally/globally focused. Many personal profiles contain information and photos that may not shine the brightest light on your employment credentials. Innocent things can often be misread by prospective employers and may cost you your next job. Trouble is, you won't even know it. You just won't get the job.

“One of the biggest challenges for job seekers is that their social networking life online can also be a major distraction or hindrance during a job search. Employers troll major Social Networking platforms looking for reasons to hire or not hire prospective candidates. Jobosabe.com is a place where you can direct employers to your profile and connect with other job seekers to share leads and ideas. It is totally business and employment based.” Noted Carl Braun, Jobosabe.com co-founder. “You can lock down your other Social Networking profiles to only trusted friends and use Jobosabe as your employment profile.” He added.

The first 1,000 Beta testers will be given a FREE resume review and guidance on how to find that next great job. A $99 value. You only need to go to Jobosabe.com, enroll and build out your employment profile. Early adopters will have a chance to create and administer “Talent Discussion Communities.” Employers will have a chance to create free “Opportunity Zones” and post jobs through Jobosabe.com or their local newspaper.

Jupiter, Florida - January 19, 2012 -- Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery (LST) is pleased to announce that they have added a new Artist News page to their website. The gallery intends to make this artist news page available exclusively to any of their gallery artists who have entered and placed in any past LST Exhibitions. Any LST Artists whose art was shown in the gallery’s art exhibitions and have news about a current art exhibition or a future art show (other than about an LST event) may have their news posted in this artist news section on a rotating basis with other LST artists.

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery asks that any interested artist who would like to announce their event provide to the gallery a professionally written, newsworthy press release of at least 200 words (approximately 1,000 characters) as a draft. The gallery will then finalize the draft, with the artist’s final approval prior to the press release being posted and made live on the LST website.

The artist’s news/press release may also contain links to that event and also to the artist’s website for additional promotion. The artist may also provide one, high quality image or graphic for this press release. This image will then be used for a thumbnail for the post excerpt and for a larger post image for the artist’s press release.

The posted press release will be available for further posting to any social media, to being placed on bookmarking sites and will also be downloadable for email distribution. This availability allows the artist to distribute and publicize their news further, as well as to post this news to their own website or blog. http://www.lightspacetime.com/artist-news/
