American
Shero, by Courtney Long, is a black, Brooklyn, female coming of age
story, set in the ever-changing drama of modern love and romance.
Brooklyn,
NY, USA (October 21, 2015) -- Courtney Long's American Shero is
satirical next wave feminism, politically incorrect, and an honest
look at the current state of young love in America.
When
it comes to relationships, there exist four states: you're either
trying to get in one, out of one, maintain one, or get over one.
Brooklynite, Zay Shero Harrison is stuck in the state of trying to
get over one. Her three girlfriends hold down the other three.
AMERICAN
SHERO is a satirical, next wave feminism, humor, politically
incorrect, and an honest look at the current state of young love in
America. SHERO is the face of what it looks like, feels like, and
acts like, as well as the heroic stance one assumes when daring to
undertake, or even avoid such relations.
Highly
imaginative, with ingenious "How To" self-help manuals
built into its narrative, AMERICAN SHERO is one very fresh, original,
edgy, cinematic, spiritual, and definitely unprecedented body of
work.
Semi-autobiographical,
AMERICAN SHERO is author, Courtney Long's first novel. His earlier
work, Love Awaits was published by Bantam Books. Also a playwright in
residence at La Garra Theatre in Silver Spring, MD, under the non de
plume, Bless ji Jaja, he has directed and worked with such talents as
Oscar nominated, Taraji P. Henson, Emmy recipient, Shemar Moore, and
Grammy recipient, Erykah Badu. His produced works on various stages
from New York to California includes the plays, Birth, M,
Barberdashers, The Window King, and Uncle Tom vs. Uncle Sam. The
latter, come 2016, co-produced by Anthony Anderson of ABC's primetime
hit comedy, black'ish. Courtney is a graduate of Howard University's
College of Fine Arts and lives in Brooklyn, New York where he is a
teaching artist at Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza's Youth Arts
Academy.
