Glenmore Healthcare features the leading physician-directed skin care products from PCA Skin and Colorscience, including Colorscience's revolutionary sunscreen, the Sunforgettable Brush.

The dark days of winter are gone, and many Canadians are emerging from their homes, schools and offices to enjoy the sunny days ahead. However, if staying in the shade is not in your plans this summer, then understanding the risks and protections associated with exposure to the sun is imperative. To help you and your family this summer, Glenmore Healthcare (http://www.glenmorehealthcare.com) carries one of the most unique sunscreen products available in Canada: The Sunforgettable Brush.

The Colorscience Sunforgettable Brush comes in a convenient powder brush canister for easy application, making it easy to keep in a purse or a beach tote. Furthermore, Colorescience lines are recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation due to their broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

Scottsdale dermatologist and instructor at the IAPAM's (http://www.iapam.com) Aesthetic Medicine Symposium (http://www.aestheticmedicinesymposium.com) in Scottsdale, Arizona, recommends effective and easy to apply sun protection. "Ultraviolet Radiation (UVR) is responsible for up to 90% of all skin cancers and is the most preventable risk factor for this potentially deadly disease. However, recent science has absolutely given physicians and the public more opportunities for increased sun protection," heralds Linder.

Here are some tips and debunked myths to protect you from "the dark side of the sun."

MYTH: Sun protection only has to be utilized when spending long periods in the sun

Dr. Linder comments that, "daily application of broad-spectrum sunscreen is "central" to the prevention of skin cancer. "Although, UVB rays do peak during the hours of 10:00am to 4:00pm, UVA rays remain constant throughout the day and are able to penetrate windows, clouds and clothing. In addition UV radiation is emitted from fluorescent and halogen bulbs found in most offices and homes. It is for this reason that everyone must wear sunscreen everyday regardless of time spent outdoors."

TIP: Understanding the Acronyms - SPF, UVA and UVB

Dr. Linder walks us through the confusing world of sun-protection acronyms:

"Consumers are often not aware that the sun protection factor (SPF) label only indicates the amount of ultraviolet B short-wave ray (UVB) protection provided by a product. Certain ingredients must be utilized in order to receive ultraviolet A long-wave ray (UVA) protection as well. In order for a product to provide broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection, avobenzone, mexoryl (ecamsule), titanium dioxide or zinc oxide must be included. A combination of UVA and UVB sunscreen ingredients and antioxidants will provide adequate protection, but only if applied correctly. At least one ounce (a shot glass full) of sunscreen is needed per application in order to get the full amount of protection a product is capable of providing.

Extremely high ratings of SPF can also be deceiving as SPF protection does not increase proportionally with an increased SPF number (e.g. An SPF 15 sunscreen protects the skin from 93% of UVB radiation, an SPF 30 sunscreen provides 97% protection, and an SPF 65 provides approximately 98% protection.) There are no sun protection products that block out 100% of UV rays. Unfortunately, higher SPF products are frequently less cosmetically elegant and could decrease use by consumers.

Finally, all sunscreens break down over time regardless of water resistance, SPF rating or ingredients used, and sunscreen products must be reapplied every two hours and following swimming and/or vigorous activity."

MYTH: Overcast days or occasional exposure to the sun means less risk

Jennifer Linder cautions that, "one huge mistake people make is that they think that because it is overcast or cool outside, the sun is not as strong. UV rays are capable of penetrating through clouds and remain constant year-round, regardless of how bright it is or the temperature. Another dangerous misconception is that because some people only get sun once or twice a year while on vacation, they are not at high skin cancer risk. Studies actually indicate the opposite to be true, and show that intense sun exposure received during vacations may be more dangerous than constant, daily exposure received by those with outdoor professions. In fact, one blistering sunburn or five non-blistering sunburns throughout life more than doubles one's risk of developing melanoma, making vacations one of the most crucial times to seek sun protection."

AAA claims pension clients keen to invest in alternatives

Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA), said that figures showing an increase in pension fund exposure to alternatives is the result of more investor willingness.

Boston, MA, USA, July 12, 2011 -- Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA), a research and advocacy organization focusing on alternative investments, said that figures showing an increase in pension fund exposure to alternatives is the result of more investor willingness.

“Pension fund clients are increasingly open to alternative investments,” stated AAA’s analysis partner, Anthony Johnson. He added, “Pension clients realise now more than ever the need for diversification within a portfolio - with many actively encouraging alternative investments as a less-risky and potentially more lucrative option to equities.”

The new Towers Watson Global Pension Asset Study showed that the share of pension funds now invested in alternatives has increased to 19 per cent as of 2010, up from an average of just seven per cent in 2000.

Meanwhile, the amount of assets under management increased by an average of 16 per cent for the top 100 pension fund managers who responded to Tower Watson’s Global Alternatives Survey, according to a report in the Financial Times.

Towers Watson’s head of investment research, Craig Baker, told the FT that there is a growing trend among pension fund managers towards alternatives over equities. The main reason is simply because more diversified pension plans saw lower losses than those with a higher exposure to equities during the financial crisis.

Both Towers Watson and AAA claim that making considerable gains through investing in alternatives is more straightforward and easier to achieve these days. Mr Johnson stated, “There are an increasing number of options open to those wishing to put their money in alternative assets, with many of the most exciting opportunities coming out of emerging economies such as Brazil. Greenwood Management, for example, is a business that offers people the chance to invest as little as EUR 10,000 in managed forestry projects that help to reduce the dependency on illegally logged timber while providing an investment product that offers investors a large amount of flexibility.”

AAA claims that forestry investments are unique as the asset will continue to grow until the investor decides that it is the right time to sell. “If timber is fetching poor prices when trees reach maturity, investors can simply wait until the market improves before they sell their assets - and they will, of course, continue to grow in the meantime,” added Mr Johnson.

The remit of Alternative Asset Analysis is to analyse and provide news on the global performance of a wide range of alternative asset classes including, but not restricted to, commodities, real estate, forestry, foreign exchange, hedge funds, private equity and venture capital.

Market Rates Insight Releases New Survey for Interest on Commercial Demand Deposit Accounts, Returning After 80 Years of Prohibition

Repeal of Reg Q on July 21 will increase competition for Demand Deposit Accounts and will require a new type of competitive intelligence on account structure and pricing.

SAN ANSELMO, Calif. (July 12, 2011) -- A new survey from Market Rates Insight (MRI, http://www.marketratesinsight.com) will help banks transition to offering interest rates on, banks will be allowed to offer interest on commercial DDAs for the first time since Section 19(i) of the Federal Reserve Act (Reg Q) was implemented during the 1930s in an attempt to reduce competition for bank deposits.

“Our Strategic Review and Analysis of the repeal of Reg Q points to two major implications” said Dan Geller, Ph.D. Executive Vice President at Market Rates Insight. “The first is an internal shift of balances from other commercial liquid accounts and short-tem CD to DDA and the second is an increase in the intensity of competition for commercial DDAs.”

The new DDA survey from Market Rates Insight has been designed to provide bank and credit union executives with critical competitive information on the structure and pricing of commercial DDA accounts. The newly-designed survey is unique because it covers three different structural variations in which DDAs can be offered to commercial customers - interest only, Earning Credit Rate (ECR) only, or a combination of ECR and interest (hybrid).

Banks are developing interest-bearing DDAs that will meet the needs of commercial customers. Commercial accounts are very profitable, and institutions need as much market intelligence as possible to ensure that they optimize the profitability of these accounts and maintain a competitive edge. Incorporating MRI’s new DDA survey will allow institutions to make better-informed product and pricing decisions.

Commercial Demand Deposit Accounts are payable on demand, or on less than seven days’ notice. They generally have no maturity period, they could not be interest-bearing and could not require the account holder to give notice of intent to withdraw funds. If they do require notice of intent to withdraw funds, the notice period must be less than seven days and the requirement must be stated in the deposit contract. Much of this is changing as of July 21.

About Market Rates Insight
Market Rates Insight (MRI, http://www.marketratesinsight.com) has been providing competitive pricing information and analysis to financial institutions for 26 years. MRI’s competitive data is complete, detailed and timely enabling the highest level of pricing precision and ensuring greater pricing optimization for improved profitability. In addition to competitive pricing data, MRI also conducts pricing analyses and tracks industry indices. MRI’s indices are published weekly in the National Pricing Indicator report, the industry standard for deposit pricing for executives at banks and credit unions.

HawksHead TPMS introduced its MOTO-TRACK system

HawksHead TPMS has recently introduced its MOTO-TRACK system which is a handle bar mount motorcycle tire pressure monitoring system.

Vancouver, Canada, July 12, 2011 -- HawksHead TPMS has recently introduced its MOTO-TRACK system which is a handle bar mount motorcycle tire pressure monitoring system. This system mounts right in front of the rider on the handlebars, not in his pocket like other key chain type systems. High visual impact alarm LEDs notify the rider of any problems in real time so immediate action can be taken to remedy the situation.

The MOTO-TRACK system measures both tire pressures and tire temperatures and has alarms that can be set by the operator for different front and rear tire settings if needed.

One of the MOTO-TRACK features is that the sensors only weigh around 10 grams and their batteries can be easily replaced so there is no need to throw the sensors away and buy new ones when the battery dies like with other systems. The sensors mount directly on the tire valves not like internal sensors that have high installation costs where the tires have to be removed for installation and sensor replacement. With internal sensors you end up losing the system when you trade your bike in. With the MOTO-TRACK you just mount your system on your new machine. Installation takes less than 10 minutes and is very easy. The monitor is powered by a single AAA battery, there is no need for difficult hard wired monitor power supplies. Comes with free sensor locks and everything you need to monitor your motorcycle tires for pressure and temperature. A selection of handlebar adapters to allow installation on many size handlebars are included.

Its a well known fact that properly inflated tires can increase gas mileage and improve tire life. For more information please visit http://www.MotorcycleTirePressureMonitoringSystem.com.

Botox Training with the IAPAM Helps Physicians Build Their Practices

Las Vegas, NV, July 11, 2011 -- As the demand for minimally-invasive treatments continues to rise, specifically the demand for Botox, dermal fillers and other cosmetic injectables, physicians who are expertly trained through multi-day botox training programs like the IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposium, can capture this growing market and greatly benefit their practice's bottom line.

As reported by the IAPAM and other aesthetic medicine associations, there were 11.6 million cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures performed in 2010, and 5.4 million of these were botox injections and other neurotoxin treatments.

The IAPAM (http://www.iapam.com) confirms this trend, noting that each of their Aesthetic Medicine Symposiums (http://www.aestheticmedicinesymposium.com) and its Botox and Dermal Filler Bootcamps and its Advanced Filler Training programs has sold out in the first half of 2011. Furthermore, while Botox training is still very popular, more and more physicians are also appreciating that the key to a successful and profitable aesthetic practice is not just offering Botox treatments, but also other skin rejuvenation procedures including: chemical peels, microdermabrasion, Laser/IPL skin rejuvenation, and physician-directed skin care.

In order to profitably add aesthetic medicine to a practice, physicians need to incorporate these key fundamentals, as taught at the IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposium:

- Understanding the latest trends in aesthetic medicine and how to use them to one's advantage;
- How to develop a successful business plan including steps on how to integrate medical aesthetics procedures into a practice or build a patient base;
- How to perform aesthetic patient consultations;
- How to add the most profitable cosmetic injectable procedures, including: Botox ®, and dermal fillers (i.e. Juvederm ®, Restylane ®, and Perlane ®), chemical peels, and physician directed skin care;
- Extensive, physician-led, hands-on training in Botulinum Toxin Type A (i.e. Botox®), IPL / laser technology, and medical microdermabrasion; and
- How to maximize profits by offering the most profitable aesthetic medicine procedures like physician strength chemical peels, tailored to meet a clinic's specific patient profiles.

The IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposium program is unique in addressing all of these issues.

Physicians learn best practices from the IAPAM's faculty of physicians and experienced instructors, and botox training is a key component of the IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposium, which also offers expert instruction in: Dermal Fillers, Microdermbarsion, Chemical Peels, and Lasers and Light Treatments & Hair Removal.

Leading the training is a team of renowned cosmetic dermatologists who will cover aesthetic patient consultations, facial anatomy & musculature, Botox ® and Dysport ® product preparation, pain management, procedural protocols, post treatment issues and continuing patient support.

IAPAM's Aesthetic Medicine Symposium is the only multi-day training program that also offers one year of unlimited practice support to all registrants. Indeed, physicians who have attended the IAPAM's Symposium, raved that, "the support you get from IAPAM afterwards definitely makes the course different than the others." Also, the conference materials provided allow each attendee and their staff to review the key content of the aesthetic medicine conference. These materials include: the complete Building a Successful Cosmetic Medical Business training program (16 training DVD's, including: Mastering the Consultation Process, Guide to Selling Photofacials, Marketing Your Cosmetic Practice, Sell Injectables and Explode Your Business, etc. as well as leader guide and 5 staff workbooks.)

For additional information and to register for an upcoming Aesthetic Medicine Symposium in Scottsdale, Arizona, please contact the Lynn at the IAPAM at 1-800-219-5108 ext. 704, or visit http://www.aestheticmedicinesymposium.com.

Unfair to Blame High-Frequency Trading for Market Crashes, The Speed Traders Edgar Perez to CNBC's Oriel Morrison

Edgar Perez, Author of The Speed Traders: An Insider's Look at the New High-Frequency Trading Phenomenon That is Transforming the Investing World, Published by McGraw-Hill Inc, Interviewed by CNBC Cash Flow’s Oriel Morrison.

(July 09, 2011, New York, USA) -- Edgar Perez, Author, The Speed Traders: An Insider's Look at the New High-Frequency Trading Phenomenon That is Transforming the Investing World, spoke with CNBC Cash Flow’s Oriel Morrison about the criticism high-frequency trading has experimented since it started being covered by the mainstream media; the interview is available on CNBC’s website at http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=2023403523.

CNBC’s Oriel Morrison, in particular, asked Mr. Perez his opinion regarding the criticism high-frequency trading has received. "Edgar, let’s take a look at some of the criticism because there has been a lot of controversy with kind of trading. Now, fairness has certainly been an issue that has been raised when it comes to this. Can there be fairness without transparency because with the speed of these trades, you simply you can't get the transparency that you may well have if you have an institution putting on a big trade at any one point in time?".

Mr. Perez pointed out that some of the criticism is unfair and doesn't address the right issues. "As I mention in my book, The Speed Traders, there has been a lot of criticism since 2009. And, I think that was influenced by the flash crash that happened last year. When that happened, people thought, 'This is high-frequency traders. They are there in the market. They were not 10 years ago, so flash crashes didn't happen before.' But to be fair, we have market crashes all the time. We had the Great Depression. We had Black Monday. And, in those cases, you cannot say that electronic trading was prevalent. So, if you look at those occasions, long term investors are always the catalysts. Humans are very emotional and when they see bad news - and that’s what happened on May 6th - they will try to sell. Of course, computers in that day - May 6th - contributed to that decline in the markets in a very quick fashion. But at the same time, once the market came down, the market went up again very quickly because of computers. So, if you look at Black Monday, it took a month for the markets to recover. In this case, with the flash crash, it took 20 minutes for the market to recover. So, definitely, computers accelerate changes but it will be unfair to exclusively blame computers for this."

The Speed Traders, http://www.TheSpeedTraders.com, published by McGraw-Hill Inc., is the most comprehensive, revealing work available on the most important development in trading in generations. High-frequency trading will no doubt play an ever larger role as computer technology advances and the global exchanges embrace fast electronic access. The Speed Traders explains everything there is to know about how today's high-frequency traders make millions-one cent at a time.”

Mr. Perez is widely regarded as the pre-eminent networker in the specialized area of high-frequency trading. He is the founder of Golden Networking and host of High-Frequency Trading Happy Hour business receptions (http://www.hfthappyhour.com) in New York City, which have drawn the world's top industry practitioners. He has been interviewed by CNBC, TheStreet.com, Bloomberg and Channel NewsAsia, and engaged as speaker at Harvard Business School's 17th Annual Venture Capital & Private Equity Conference, Columbia Business School's Career Management Center and Alumni Club of New York, High-Frequency Trading Leaders Forum 2011 (New York, Hong Kong, Chicago, Sao Paulo, Singapore), CFA Singapore, and Hong Kong Securities Institute, among others prestigious forums.

Mr. Perez was a vice president at Citi, a senior consultant at IBM, and a consultant at McKinsey & Co. in New York City. Mr. Perez has an undergraduate degree from Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería, Lima, Peru (1994), a Master of Administration from Universidad ESAN, Lima, Peru (1997) and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School, with a dual major in Finance and Management (2002). He is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma international honor society. Mr. Perez resides in the New York City area and is an accomplished salsa and hustle dancer.

Mr. Perez is one of the great business networkers and motivators on the lecture circuit; he is available worldwide for the following speaking engagements: Present and Future of High-Frequency Trading, The Real Story behind the "Flash Crash", Networking for Financial Executives, and Business Networking for Success.

PB Millionaire Says His New Show Will Be No Jersey Shore

Will Be "Good Entertainment Without Any Snookis".

San Diego, CA, July 08, 2011 -- In about six months from now, San Diegans will finally get to see the first episode of what producer Jim Lawlor promises to be “good entertainment without any Snookis.” After three years of filming, “The PB Reality Show,” (http://www.pbreality.com) in which Lawlor is also the star, will be released with much fanfare. Even though the show has not aired yet, Lawlor is already recognized everywhere he goes in and around Pacific Beach. All the while Lawlor has been filming, he has also been strategically marketing the show through his website and Facebook page so that the buildup of fans has steadily climbed in anticipation to the show’s release.

By showing teaser clips on Youtube, Lawlor has already built a fan base that could be considered the envy of Hollywood. His latest video release: “The PB Millionaire Present PB” has already gone viral and is expected to reach 10,000 views within the first several weeks. In this video, Lawlor showcases his favorite hangout spots in Pacific Beach. But what has most fans abuzz is the dance scene finale in which he is seen moving to the tune of Rick Astley. (see video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7o67dqoD_8)

Lawlor's laid-back, easy-going style, along with his self-effacing humor, is magnetic to his fans. Comments on the show’s Facebook Fan page like: “You are an amazing person!” - Alice says. “Vote JIM FOR PB PREZ!!! - Marissa commented. “Way to go Jim!!!” - wrote Dick. “Man if I ever see you around? PB I am going to give you the firmest handshake of MY life!” - someone commented on his video.

One reason for Lawlor's appeal is that he was once so broke he slept in his car and is now a self-made millionaire living in a castle. Viewers can relate to his struggle and are inspired by his success. “The PB Reality Show’s” motto reads: “It’s about celebrating life” - and Lawlor shows the world how it’s done with his legendary parties and lavish lifestyle. He also is a philanthropist who gives back to the community with his main focus on helping the homeless here in San Diego.

Part 2 of "The PB Millionaire Presents PB" will be released in just a few weeks. It will highlight more of Lawlor's favorite spots and will also include some of "The PB Reality Show's" models. The show itself is scheduled to release early next year and Lawlor guarantees that unlike "Jersey Shore," it "will make San Diego proud."

FRA Welcomes Investment in New Alberta Forestry Product

Forestry Research Associates welcomes the Canadian government initiative to invest in an innovative material made from a range of forestry products in the Alberta region of the country.

Seattle, USA, July 08, 2011 -- The Canadian government is investing generously in the production of an exciting new green material that is made from a range of forestry products in the Alberta region of the country.

Forestry Research Associates (FRA), a research and advisory consultancy, supports the move to pilot a scheme to explore the potential applications of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC). The product is made from wood and straw pulp, which will be processed at a CA$5.5 million plant in Alberta. The plant is being funded by both the federal and provincial government under the Western Economic Partnership Agreement (WEPA).

The plant will produce and test some 100 kgs of the material each week. The product can be tested for uses within the automobile industry, plastics, paints and building materials, energy extraction and healthcare. “This new product is extremely exciting, not least for the potential it could bring for jobs and opportunities in Alberta,” explained Peter Collins, an analyst at FRA. “If the material proves to be useful and more needs to be produced, greater investment in Alberta forestry is likely to follow,” he added.

Greg Weadick, the Minister of Alberta Advanced Education and Technology also has high hopes for the new material. “This has the potential to be one of the technologies that, literally, changes the world,” he stated.

His enthusiasm also transferred to what the discovery could do for the forestry industry in Canada in general. His positivity was echoed by Mike Lake, the Member of Parliament for Edmonton-Mill Woods-Beaumont. He stated, “Our Government’s investment will help advance a new forestry product with the potential to diversify the industry.

“With numerous sectors in Alberta that could benefit from NCC applications, this initiative will help increase our competitiveness and create jobs in our communities.”

FRA welcomed the news that a new, strong and environmentally sound product had been discovered as a by-product of the forestry industry. The organization hopes that the pilot scheme will discover a great many uses for the material, which could help to further diversify forestry investors’ portfolios.

Rosendin Electric Extends Commitment to Green Practices With Deployment of Electrical Fleet of Forklifts

As part of its commitment to promote ecological responsibility, this week the contractor deployed a fleet of all-electric forklifts in its Bay Area warehouses.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (July 08, 2011) -- Rosendin Electric, the nation’s largest private electrical contractor and a 100% employee-owned company, has always been an advocate of LEED sustainable construction and green building practices. As part of its commitment to promote ecological responsibility, this week the contractor deployed a fleet of all-electric forklifts in its Bay Area warehouses.

Rosendin Electric has just replaced its fleet of propane-powered forklifts for its supply yard in both its San Jose headquarters and in San Francisco. The switchover will both reduce pollutants from the propane emissions and will save energy by using smart-chargers to recharge the forklifts during off-peak hours. An added advantage to the migration is better safety in the warehouse. The forklift controls are completely programmable, including limiting the maximum speed, making them safer to operate.

“The biggest savings we are going to see from this conversion is from our carbon footprint,” said Victor Mumford, Fleet Manager for Rosendin Electric. “The longer we use them, the more energy efficient they become because we can charge them when the electricity rates are low and they generate increased savings over time. They aren't suited for use on the job sites, but they certainly fit our needs in the yard.”

Mumford estimates that converting to electrical forklifts will save thousands of dollars in operating costs, as well as almost 40,000 pounds of carbon dioxide and 18,000 pounds of carbon monoxide. The life of the electric forklifts is estimated to be 15 years or more, which is comparable to diesel or propane forklifts. Based on current use patterns, Mumford estimates the forklifts can be charged once a week which should extend their usefulness and realize further savings in cost and energy.

This move is the latest in Rosendin Electric’s efforts to “green” its operating fleet. In 2006, the company provided its safety personnel with Ford Escape hybrids, saving an estimated 54 metric tons of carbon per year. In 2008, Rosendin Electric Superintendents were moved from gas-powered pickup trucks to Escape hybrids saving an addition 126 metric tons per year. In 2010, the General Superintendents were given hybrid pickup trucks, saving 28 metric tons of carbon pollutants per year.

“We promote green building practices and work with our clients to help them create energy-efficient buildings that deliver savings in energy consumption and operating costs,” said Tom Sorley, CEO of Rosendin Electric. “As part of our commitment to green construction practices, it’s our duty to use every strategy we can to eliminate pollutants and minimize our carbon footprint. Migrating to a greener fleet of forklifts and field vehicles is just one small step we can make to demonstrate our commitment to green construction."

Kimberly-Clark Forestry Commitment Should Encourage Others, Says FRA

Forestry Research Associated has welcomed an announcement that personal hygiene products giant Kimberly-Clarke has expanded its membership of the World Wildlife Fund’s Global Forest & Trade Network.

Bainbridge Island, WA, USA, July 08, 2011 -- Forestry Research Associated (FRA) has welcomed an announcement that personal hygiene products giant Kimberly-Clarke has expanded its membership of the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN).

“We are delighted to hear that Kimberly-Clark is increasing its commitment to using sustainable and ethically sourced wood fibre in its popular products,” stated Peter Collins, an analysis partner at FRA, which is a research and advisory consultancy.

WWF started the Network in a bid to help conserve the most threatened and valuable forests in the world by stopping illegal logging altogether. The scheme has been successful in that it has attracted support from a wide range of major manufacturers who are all now committed to using only sustainable sources of timber and timber products. The announcement with Kimberly-Clark, one of the largest global brands when it comes to products like tissue and personal care items, was made at the GFTN’s 20 Anniversary event held at the Forest Stewardship Council’s annual General Assembly in Malaysia.

FRA welcomed the move as a major statement of intent from a large player in the paper products industry. “We believe that if more businesses of the size of Kimberly-Clark make such brave statements about the sourcing of their wood fibre, then any business should be in a position to follow suit,” added FRA’s Peter Collins.

Richly forested nations like Indonesia, Brazil and Costa Rica are all making moves to try to wipe out illegal logging and to safeguard the future of their forestry industries for generations to come. Projects such as those run by firms like Greenwood Management in Brazil and Emerald Knight in Costa Rica, are helping to drive foreign investment into these countries in the form of funding for sustainable plantations of non-native timbers, which can be managed and exported abroad instead of timber from native forests.

WWF’s Managing Director for Forests, Kerry Cesareo, said, “Given its breadth of product offerings and market influence, we commend Kimberly-Clark’s leadership in pushing the pulp and paper industry toward more responsible sourcing practices.” She continued, “Our collaboration will improve forest management, reduce impacts from production, and help protect the forests and habitats at the core of our mission.”
